Ybor City (EE-borh) in Tampa Florida is a historic neighborhood near downtown Tampa and the port of Tampa. The city was founded in the 1880s by cigar manufacturers and was populated by thousands of immigrants, most of them from Spain, Cuba, and Italy. For the next 50 years, workers in Ybor City's cigar factories rolled millions of cigars fueling a robust local economy that supported the arts, culture and the health of the community.

After WWII many of the neighborhood's cigar factories were abandoned and now the area has been redeveloped into a popular nightclub and entertainment district that includes restaurants, bars and nightclubs, a Muvico theater, shops, offices and hotels. The area boasts the GaYbor entertainment district, with several Gay and Lesbian bars including Southern Nights, Bradley’s on 7th and Liquid and restaurants all within walking distance of a few very conveniently located hotels.

The Ybor City neighborhood has been designated as a National Historic Landmark District, and several structures in the area are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. In 2008, 7th Avenue, the main commercial thoroughfare in Ybor City, was recognized as one of the “10 Great Streets in America” by the American Planning Association.

Traveling to Ybor City from anywhere served by Amtrak in Florida can be very simple. Board Amtrak at any station and relax for a few hours and you'll end up at Tampa's Union Station, about four blocks from the heart of the GayBor entertainment district. Round trip tickets on Amtrak are about $70. Once you're in Ybor City everything is no more than a few blocks away and for longer trips you can board the Teco Line, a streetcar line that connects Ybor City to Channelside Village, a cruise port with more shops and theaters. The streetcar line also runs past the Florida Aquarium, St Pete Times Forum, where the Stanley Cup winners, the Tampa Bay Lightening (NHL), play and ends up near Harbor Island and the Tampa Convention Center.

Tampa is also the home of Bush Gardens as well as Super Bowl winners, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The New York Yankees Spring Training facility, Legends Field, is located near the Buccaneers stadium. The Sunshine Skyway Bridge, spanning Florida's Tampa Bay, is the world's longest bridge with a cable-stayed main span, with a length of 29,040 feet (exactly 5.5 miles or approximately 8.85 km).

Adult Film Star Rocco Steele Tackles HIV Stigma

Although research and support for the HIV/AIDS community has come a long way since the 80s and 90s, a great deal of ignorance and stigma still exists—even within the gay community. With celebrities such as Charlie Sheen and Danny Pintauro (Who’s the Boss?) recently bringing HIV/AIDS into the entertainment headlines, perhaps now is the perfect time for a new, more enlightened conversation on the subject.

Mark’s List spoke with adult film star Rocco Steele, who has experienced his fair share of ups and downs with addiction and living with HIV.  He has, however, used these personal experiences as a catalyst to promote HIV awareness and education. Florida's Best Clothing Optional Gay Men's Resorts

Life in the tropics is all about beating the heat. And what better way cool off than to hang out poolside without clothing? Florida has dozens of clothing optional resorts, but which ones are the best? Here's the Mark's List take on the 5 best (in no particular order).

In Key West check out New Orleans House and Island House. New Orleans House is located on Duval Street, right in the middle of all of the action. You can count on a great time poolside or in Key West's biggest Gay nightclub, Bourbon Street Pub. Island House is located on a quieter side street and offers amazing rooms, many of them opening onto the pool and patio. There's also an amazing pool side cafe serving up some of the best food (and libations) on the Island. In Fort Lauderdale, we suggest you get your Gay clothing optional groove on at The Grand Resort and Spa, which offers an upscale atmosphere with amenities that include spa services, poolside cabana bars and plenty of tanning lotion to keep your booty from burning. In Central Florida you can head out into the woods and catch some all over rays at the Sawmill Camping Resort. Sawmill offers cabins and plenty of places to park RVs or pitch tents. There's also a large heated pool, a dance hall, restaurant, several themed bars and plenty of trails to go "hiking" on.
