Palace, the iconic gay restaurant and bar on Ocean Drive that is world-renowned for its live drag performances, will be re-opening at 1052 Ocean.

Palace was a long-time popular haunt for celebrities — Andy Cohen, Nene Leakes, and Perez Hilton have been spotted dining outside the eatery, and in the old days Luciano Pavarotti, Elton John, Madonna and Princess Diana were frequently spotted at the restaurant.

Steve Palsar launched Palace in February 1988. Miami was a much different city and at that time there were no other restaurants on the Drive. Everyone thought Palsar was crazy to introduce one, but he did. Palace opened at 1200 Ocean Drive — Palsar’s “little slice of heaven,” as he called it — and it would usher in a whole new era that would eventually lead to cafes up and down the street.

When we interviewed Thomas Donall right before the closing at the original location he said: “The truth of the matter is that this situation presents us with a fantastic opportunity to grow, we’re going to find a new place that has the same character but offers a bigger performance space that better suits the needs of our changing community.” What Thomas said months ago has become reality with the new location. It was a pleasure to sit down with Thomas again for this interview.

When you found out that the original location of Palace would be coming to an end did you consider not relocating or was relocating the only option?

I really tried to stay in the property and work a deal out, but I just couldn’t. It was also going to take a year and a half to finish the property, and I knew I couldn’t be closed that long, so I immediately started looking for the new location.

When did you find the new location for Palace?

I have been going up and down Ocean Drive for months, and I finally found our new home at 1052 a few weeks ago.

How hard was it to keep the location a secret?

Very difficult, as I wanted to transfer everything first before announcing, but the word got out quick.

How is the new location better than the old location?

We have a lot bigger deck in the front for the shows and it has a huge awning so there are no umbrellas to inhibit the girls. The inside opens to the outside with all glass doors. It’s one of the best locations on Ocean Drive for the Palace.

Who are some of the girls, we have come to know and love that will continue to be on the Palace cast?

Missy, TP, Tiffany, and Elishaly are the four major girls we will have back.

Are you bringing in new girls?

We are going to be having several new entertainers trying out so we can get some fresh girls for our new team.

What’s ahead for the iconic Palace?

We are going to be working on different shows, we are installing a Boid Sound System, which will be fabulous, an all-new lights system and as I said it’s a much bigger space. This is a much freer open space and I am sure the South Florida community will love it!

We have a 20 year lease so Palace is set here for a long time.

Florida's Best Clothing Optional Gay Men's Resorts

Life in the tropics is all about beating the heat. And what better way cool off than to hang out poolside without clothing? Florida has dozens of clothing optional resorts, but which ones are the best? Here's the Mark's List take on the 5 best (in no particular order).

In Key West check out New Orleans House and Island House. New Orleans House is located on Duval Street, right in the middle of all of the action. You can count on a great time poolside or in Key West's biggest Gay nightclub, Bourbon Street Pub. Island House is located on a quieter side street and offers amazing rooms, many of them opening onto the pool and patio. There's also an amazing pool side cafe serving up some of the best food (and libations) on the Island. In Fort Lauderdale, we suggest you get your Gay clothing optional groove on at The Grand Resort and Spa, which offers an upscale atmosphere with amenities that include spa services, poolside cabana bars and plenty of tanning lotion to keep your booty from burning. In Central Florida you can head out into the woods and catch some all over rays at the Sawmill Camping Resort. Sawmill offers cabins and plenty of places to park RVs or pitch tents. There's also a large heated pool, a dance hall, restaurant, several themed bars and plenty of trails to go "hiking" on.

Dating App Releases Daddyhunt: The Serial Season 3

DADDYHUNT: THE SERIAL is back with Season 3 continuing the saga of two men who connect on the social network Daddyhunt.  Season 2 of the Serial took on the issue of PrEP and Season 3 builds on that with an emphasis on STD testing and partner notification (telling sexual partners they may need to get tested).

Premiering Oct. 24th, Season 3 of the series picks up where season 2 left off with the romance between the two men (BJ Gruber and Jim Newman) having grown closer and more intimate, but they also face some significant communication challenges. Additionally, Season 2’s Michael Snipe Jr. has a new love interest – but they too face some struggles from early on.

The series is a partnership between Daddyhunt and Building Healthy Online Communities (BHOC), a public-private partnership between dating sites and apps and HIV and STD prevention organizations.

Season 2, which won numerous awards including “Winner: Top Shorts Online Film Festival”, and the accompanying public service announcements have been viewed more than 5.7 million times since they were launched in April 2017.

For the third season, Daddyhunt again partnered with Building Healthy Online Communities (BHOC), to weave in storylines relating to STD testing, and the challenge of telling partners that they might have inadvertently given them an STD.  Through six accompanying PSAs, the actors delve into these issues more, and encourage gay men to seek out information on getting tested, PrEP, maintaining an undetectable viral load, and advice on writing a good online profile.

“We were thrilled to work with Daddyhunt again on Season 3 of the series,” said Dan Wohlfeiler, Director of BHOC.  “This partnership enabled us to go viral with a message about how our community confronts – and beats – viruses.” “We continue to be blown away by the reaction to the series,” said Casey Crawford, at Daddyhunt.  “It proves there remains a deep desire for stories about gay men that are true to real life.  And we were excited to work with BHOC to weave in topics that remain relevant to gay men today including the importance of routine testing, partner notification and fighting stigma online.”

Daddyhunt: The Serial - Season 3 debuts on Oct 24th and can be viewed on the Daddyhunt YouTube Channel.

Recruiting Hosts’ Robert Geller Talks LGBTQ Travel App

In a recent interview with GritDaily, Robert Geller gives the latest scoop on the LGBTQ-friendly travel app, Recruiting Hosts. According to the article, allegations of discrimination against LGBTQ populations on popular apps such as Airbnb and Overnight are ever-present. Risks rise in unfamiliar environments and in general, booking a room in a stranger’s home can be intimidating.

According to Gellar the app's goal is to "create a community of ally and LGBT hosts removing the whole coming out to a stranger, eliminating any anxiety, reinforcing that travel is about fun and meaningful connections."

"It’s pretty exciting actually to create a platform that is putting good out into the universe. We’re bringing people together in a meaningful way that’s rewarding. We also hope to bring people together in the communities represented on our platform for events and activities that resonate with the LGBT community such as AIDS Walks and LGBT film festivals," Gellar said.

It's a song born from loneliness and the heartbreaking but liberating tale of my coming-out experience. What I love about this song is that it isn’t just limited to a story of sexual identity, but about the relationship between parent and child and acceptance as a whole.”
