The Hollywood, Florida Community Redevelopment Agency was created to redevelop Hollywood as a dynamic place to invest, work, live and play. The Downtown District, created in 1979, is approximately 580 acres and extends from 22nd Avenue on the west to generally 17th Avenue on the east, Johnson Street on the north and Washington Street on the south.

The Beach District, created in 1997, consists of 293 acres from Sherman Street south to the south property line of the Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa, and from the Intracoastal Waterway to the Atlantic Ocean. Every day, the Hollywood CRA continues its ongoing implementation of the redevelopment plan.

About Gay and Lesbian Hollywood, Florida
Hollywood is a city in Broward County, Florida, United States. Founded in 1925, the city grew quickly in the 1950s and 1960s, and is now the twelth largest city in Florida. The South Florida metropolitan area, which includes Hollywood, is home to more than six million people.

The Hollywood area is well known for its casual and laid back atmosphere, but in recent years downtown and Hollywood Beach have undergone a transformation that began with the demolition and rebuilding of the world renowned Diplomat Hotel. The Diplomat was a magnet for Hollywood celebrities, Presidents and the world's Royalty throughout most of it history. The new Diplomat Resort and Spa has reclaimed the luster and brought millions of dollars in additional revenue to the area. The economy of Hollywood has also been bolstered by Casinos like The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino (a gargantuan complex rivaling anything in Vegas) and The Seminole Paradise Casino which call Hollywood home. Nearby, but not technically in Hollywood, are Gulfstream Racing Park and Casino and Mardis Gras Casino. Hollywood has wisely used the newfound money to redevelop Young Circle and the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk creating a vibrant community sandwiched between Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

The ArtsPark at Young Circle features 10 acres of tropical greenery, an outdoor Amphitheater featuring concerts, dance and other live performances, broad paved promenades for walking or jogging, a children’s area with a play fountain, and a spectacular ever-changing feature fountain designed by internationally acclaimed public artist Ritsuko Taho of Japan.

Hollywood Beach BroadwalkThe Hollywood Beach Theater and Bandshell is on the world famous Broadwalk on Hollywood Beach, Florida. The theater is the only seaside venue of its kind in Broward County. This unique facility includes seating for 500. During performances, the Broadwalk in front of the theater becomes a spacious under the stars dance floor for hundreds of couples.

The Third Friday Artwalk in downtown Hollywood, Florida takes place in an Art and Entertainment District that stretches for several blocks along Harrison Street, Hollywood Boulevard and Federal Highway. You will find shops and dining in outdoor cafe's lining the streets. Yellow Green Farmers Market is open on Saturdays and Sundays and is located by the Sheridan Street Tri-Rail station in Hollywood, Florida. The Yellow Green Farmers Market is the largest of it's kind in Florida.

Although research and support for the HIV/AIDS community has come a long way since the 80s and 90s, a great deal of ignorance and stigma still exists—even within the gay community. With celebrities such as Charlie Sheen and Danny Pintauro (Who’s the Boss?) recently bringing HIV/AIDS into the entertainment headlines, perhaps now is the perfect time for a new, more enlightened conversation on the subject.

Florida's Best Clothing Optional Gay Men's Resorts

Life in the tropics is all about beating the heat. And what better way cool off than to hang out poolside without clothing? Florida has dozens of clothing optional resorts, but which ones are the best? Here's the Mark's List take on the 5 best (in no particular order).

In Key West check out New Orleans House and Island House. New Orleans House is located on Duval Street, right in the middle of all of the action. You can count on a great time poolside or in Key West's biggest Gay nightclub, Bourbon Street Pub. Island House is located on a quieter side street and offers amazing rooms, many of them opening onto the pool and patio. There's also an amazing pool side cafe serving up some of the best food (and libations) on the Island. In Fort Lauderdale, we suggest you get your Gay clothing optional groove on at The Grand Resort and Spa, which offers an upscale atmosphere with amenities that include spa services, poolside cabana bars and plenty of tanning lotion to keep your booty from burning. In Central Florida you can head out into the woods and catch some all over rays at the Sawmill Camping Resort. Sawmill offers cabins and plenty of places to park RVs or pitch tents. There's also a large heated pool, a dance hall, restaurant, several themed bars and plenty of trails to go "hiking" on.
