Fort Lauderdale's Gateway shopping and dining area has been anchored by the Gateway Theater for over a half century. The Classic Gateway Cinema's 4 screens show current Hollywood films along with a selection of  art, independent and foreign films, attracting a Gay clientele into the neighborhood and the crowds spill over into the restaurants, making this one of Fort Lauderdale's premier dining areas. With only one chain restaurant (Subway - you'll have to find it without our help) local restaurateurs dominate the area and serve everything from Thai, Italian and Japanese to Southwestern and Spanish. The recent addition of Chill Wine Lounge has cemented the neighborhood's long-standing reputation as an LGBT destination.

In recent years the area has seen an influx of high end home and garden design enterprises take over the occasionally vacant storefronts. Shops like the Ensemble Collection, Dwell, Domicile and several more newcomers make this a design haven that suits just about any taste. All of the shops in the Gateway neighborhood are very Gay friendly and large number are Gay owned and operated.

In 2009 AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), organizers of the Florida AIDS Walk and Music Festival, opened their flagship Out of the Closet Thrift store on the Southwest corner of Gateway's main intersection, Sunrise Boulevard and Federal Highway. The thrift store helps fund AHF's local operations, providing HIV screening and other medical assistance to residents of the Fort Lauderdale and Wilton Manors LGBT communities.

Just a couple of blocks east of Gateway on Sunrise is the Galleria, a mall that includes Neiman Marcus, Macy's, Dillard's, Apple and a number of other retailers and chain restaurants. Gateway is also located midway between the Wilton Manors LGBT nighlife & entertainment district and the Fort Lauderdale Beach LGBT guesthouses, making it a convenient place to grab a bite or while away some time.

Florida's 5 Best Clothing Optional Gay Men's Resorts

Life in the tropics is all about beating the heat. And what better way cool off than to hang out poolside without clothing? Florida has dozens of clothing optional resorts, but which ones are the best? Here's the Mark's List take on the 5 best (in no particular order).

In Key West check out New Orleans House and Island House. New Orleans House is located on Duval Street, right in the middle of all of the action. You can count on a great time poolside or in Key West's biggest Gay nightclub, Bourbon Street Pub. Island House is located on a quieter side street and offers amazing rooms, many of them opening onto the pool and patio. There's also an amazing pool side cafe serving up some of the best food (and libations) on the Island. In Fort Lauderdale, we suggest you get your Gay clothing optional groove on at The Grand Resort and Spa, which offers an upscale atmosphere with amenities that include spa services, poolside cabana bars and plenty of tanning lotion to keep your booty from burning. In Central Florida you can head out into the woods and catch some all over rays at the Sawmill Camping Resort. Sawmill offers cabins and plenty of places to park RVs or pitch tents. There's also a large heated pool, a dance hall, restaurant, several themed bars and plenty of trails to go "hiking" on.
