The winter season is my favorite time of year for television. Not only are some of my favorites returning with new episodes around this time, but there are also new shows that sound interesting that are vying for my attention as well. Set a date with your DVR and watch at least one of these twelve new offerings.

Travelers

This Canadian-made series, which first debuted north of the border in October, will release all 12 episodes on Netflix for U.S. audiences. When to Watch: December 23, Netflix

The Mick

Kaitlin Olson from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia stars in this new sitcom about a hot mess of a woman who struggles to get her life together after she is named guardian of her sister's children, after said sister books it out of the country to avoid federal fraud charges.

All episodes will be available for viewing on Hulu immediately and will air weekly on Freeform.

When to Watch: January 2, Freeform and Hulu

The New Celebrity Apprentice

"This is already a show," I'm sure you're saying. Yes, but it might as well be completely new now that there is a new host (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and new advisors (Warren Buffett, Steve Ballmer, Jessica Alba, and more!). Watch out for buzzworthy contestants like Carnie Wilson, Porsha Williams, Carson Kressley and Boy George.

When to Watch: January 2, NBC

Emerald City

Oz book lovers, rejoice! This edgy retelling of the books in the Land of Oz series, written by L. Frank Baum, is finally coming to NBC after nearly three years in production! Adria Arjona stars as Dorothy Gale, the farm girl who finds herself in a completely different world. Vincent D'Onofrio stars as the Wizard.

When to Watch: January 6, NBC

One Day at a Time

Bonnie Franklin is smiling down from heaven at the cast of this show, which is a remake of the popular classic CBS sitcom. In this incarnation, which, like the original, is produced by Norman Lear, a Cuban-American woman raises her teenage daughter and tween son with the help of her no-nonsense traditional mother.

When to Watch: January 6, Netflix

Taboo

Tom Hardy stars in this dramatic miniseries, a co-production between FX and the BBC. An adventurer, who returns from Britain after working with the East India Company in Africa, is out for revenge after his father dies. He has also brought back a sizable bounty: fourteen stolen diamonds. This series is produced by Tom Hardy and his father Chips.

When to Watch: January 10, FX

Victoria

In the vein of Downton Abbey, Mr. Selfridge and Call the Midwife, the UK's ITV has brought U.S. audiences another historical drama, this time focusing on Queen Victoria, the long-reigning 19th century British monarch, with an emphasis on the first few years of her reign, which began in 1837. Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who) stars.

When to Watch: January 15, PBS

Throwing Shade

The hilarious weekly podcast is finally coming to TV in TV Land's first concerted effort to produce late-night programming since Alf's Hit Talk Show (anyone remember that?). Erin Gibson and Bryan Safi will bring their no-holds-barred comedy to this new series as they dissect issues "affecting ladies and gays."

When to Watch: January 17, TV Land

Santa Clarita Diet

If you're a big fan of Drew Barrymore like I am, go ahead and rejoice, because she's coming to TV! In this new series, Drew plays Sheila, a middle-aged real estate agent who spends a lot of time with her husband/realty partner Joel (Timothy Olyphant). This dark comedy covers a lot of ground after something troubling happens to the couple.

24: Legacy

The popular 24 franchise is revived with a new lead character and lots of time-sensitive drama and action. New Documentary Chronicles Iconic Fashion Designer

Featuring interviews with Naomi Campbell, Claire Danes, Sean “Diddy” Combs, André Leon Talley, and Nicole Phelps, "HOUSE OF Z" chronicles the meteoric rise of fashion designer Zac Posen at the age of 21 and then his brand's falling out of favor several years later and his challenge to rebuild his company and his reputation. It is both a portrait of an artist as a young man, and a look behind the glamorous curtain of one of the most distinguished brands in the world, revealing the tenuous dance between art and commerce that informs every move.

“I'm thrilled that Condé Nast is launching 'House of Z' on its new digital platform,” said Zac Posen. “This partnership is a demonstration and continuation of the support and history we have had with Vogue and CNÉ over the years."

Patti LaBelle Talks LGBT Fans, Lip-Syncing 'Divettes'

Is there a singer more real than Patti LaBelle? The 73-year-old legend of song (and shade) is a firehose of strong-minded opinions, and in an age that has some tight-lipped “divettes,” as LaBelle calls them, refraining from saying “too” much, the ever-honest LaBelle is, refreshingly, that rare freewheeler who revels in being blunt AF. Find out what Ms. LaBelle had to say about her LGBT fans, lip-synching "divettes" and Donald Trump in her latest interview.

Six Reasons Homosexuals Are Genetically Superior

Science has yet to definitively declare a “gay gene” – probably because all those evil-gelicals would abort their gaybies left and right and all hell would break loose (hallelujah?) –but just because the argument for biological evidence that determines sexual orientation hasn’t been substantiated doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Barring the discovery of an actual genetic modification that predisposes people to being gay, studies have shown that homosexuality is a heritable trait. Nonetheless, the research as it stands now is still just a bunch of lab-coat mumbo jumbo caught up in a tornado of politics. Here are six reasons why homosexuals are genetically superior to their heterosexual counterparts.

Adult Film Star Rocco Steele Tackles HIV Stigma

Although research and support for the HIV/AIDS community has come a long way since the 80s and 90s, a great deal of ignorance and stigma still exists—even within the gay community. With celebrities such as Charlie Sheen and Danny Pintauro (Who’s the Boss?) recently bringing HIV/AIDS into the entertainment headlines, perhaps now is the perfect time for a new, more enlightened conversation on the subject.

Mark’s List spoke with adult film star Rocco Steele, who has experienced his fair share of ups and downs with addiction and living with HIV.  He has, however, used these personal experiences as a catalyst to promote HIV awareness and education. Florida's Best Clothing Optional Gay Men's Resorts

Life in the tropics is all about beating the heat. And what better way cool off than to hang out poolside without clothing? Florida has dozens of clothing optional resorts, but which ones are the best? Here's the Mark's List take on the 5 best (in no particular order).

In Key West check out New Orleans House and Island House. New Orleans House is located on Duval Street, right in the middle of all of the action. You can count on a great time poolside or in Key West's biggest Gay nightclub, Bourbon Street Pub. Island House is located on a quieter side street and offers amazing rooms, many of them opening onto the pool and patio. There's also an amazing pool side cafe serving up some of the best food (and libations) on the Island. In Fort Lauderdale, we suggest you get your Gay clothing optional groove on at The Grand Resort and Spa, which offers an upscale atmosphere with amenities that include spa services, poolside cabana bars and plenty of tanning lotion to keep your booty from burning. In Central Florida you can head out into the woods and catch some all over rays at the Sawmill Camping Resort. Sawmill offers cabins and plenty of places to park RVs or pitch tents. There's also a large heated pool, a dance hall, restaurant, several themed bars and plenty of trails to go "hiking" on.
