Everybody Drinks The Same Water Opens at Miami Theater Center

Everybody Drinks The Same Water is written by Stephanie Ansin & Fernando Calzadilla and features choreography by Miami favorite Octavio Campos, original music & sound design by Luciano Stazzone and set, costume & lighting design by Fernando Calzadilla. Directed by Stephanie Ansin, this edgy new play offers a lesson in our common humanity and how working together across religious lines is a better way to solve complex problems.
As part of the Opening Weekend festivities of Everybody Drinks the Same Water, Miami Theater Center will host a family-friendly, four-block-long street fair in Miami Shores, creating a dynamic community celebration. Inspired by medieval Córdoba, the street fair will feature jugglers, flamenco and belly dancers, stilt performers, a contortionist, artists, live drummers and musicians, craftspeople, food trucks, face painting, and a parade that will showcase the cast of Everybody Drinks the Same Water.
The story: Everybody Drinks The Same Water begins as a Christian King has just taken control of the city of Cordoba, Spain, ending more than 500 years of Islamic rule. Moments after entering the castle, the new ruler drinks a glass of water and becomes violently ill. His family accuses the Muslim community of attempting to assassinate him, but the picture gets murkier with reports of Jews, Muslims, and other Christians getting sick. Evidently, the entire public water supply has been poisoned. Fear, anger, and suspicion infect the town. Frustrated by their elders’ inability to see beyond the finger pointing, three teenagers of different faiths decide to work together to unravel the mystery. Add to the mix inter-religious flirtations with potentially fatal consequences, and you get an engaging look at the past that teaches powerful lessons about the present.

Turn Your Screwdiver Into A Harvey Wallbanger

Vodka and OJ. It's a simple recipe that gets you some vitamin C and a handy buzz while you're hanging with the boys. But how can you you kick it up a notch? How can you make it fancy? Just add a 1/2 shot of Galliano L'Autentico, an Italian herbal liqueur to your screwdriver, or ask your fave bartender to mix one up. Legend has it that the Harvey Wallbanger was named after a Manhattan Beach surfer. The drink was little known outside of California until the early 70's (as in 1970's), when it became briefly popular after it was featured as a cocktail on TWA flights.

Here's the Harvey Wallbanger recipe:
1/2 shot Galliano L'Autentico
1 & 1/2 shots Vodka
Top up the glass with ice cubes and OJ

Stay In One Of Florida's Gatsby Era Hotels

Hotel rates are cheaper in the summer and places many people can't afford to stay in season, often become affordable. Florida has some of the United States enduring, iconic and most beautiful Gatsby Era hotels. You'll find them all on Mark's List! Here are the five that are well worth any price.

In St Petersburg, check out the beachfront Loew's Don Cesar. Known as Florida's "Pink Palace," this grand luxury hotel was built in 1928 to resemble a Mediterranean-style castle. The Don CeSar was born in the Great Gatsby era as a playground for the rich and famous. The iconic “Pink Palace” has been revitalized and refreshed within, ensuring a future as rich and storied as its history.

Also in St Petersburg, big hotel whores will love the classic Vinoy Hotel. The arduous $93 million dollar effort to restore another living piece of history from the Great Gatsby era combined with an acquisition for Marriott Corporation has met great success. This Renaissance property offers all the amenities of a 4-star, 4-Diamond hotel with the grandeur of the 1920s (including the authentic Augusta Block bricks lining the front driveway).

The Floridan Palace Hotel opened in 1927 in downtown Tampa and this nineteen story, 213 room, 15 suite and 3 penthouse luxury hotel has been fully restored to its original grandeur. The hotel is not only central to the history of Tampa Bay, it is an icon in United States history. The hotel's bar, the Sapphire Room, was a popular nightspot during World War II for servicemen who were training at nearby Drew Field to fly B-17s over Europe. The bar's wild reputation at the time earned it the nickname "The Surefire Room". Elvis Presley, Tony Kovac, Babe Ruth and virtualy every notable person that visited Tampa during the hotel's first heyday stayed at the Floridan.

The Biltmore Hotel, a National Historic Landmark built in 1926 and situated on 150 tropical acres, is located in the Miami neighborhood of Coral Gables. Picture a dreamlike setting complete with exquisite, hand-painted frescos on barrel-vaulted ceilings, brilliant travertine floors, fine marble columns, intricate leaded glass fixtures, carved mahogany furnishings and lavish gardens. Then picture this all in the shadow of a spiraling Moorish Giralda tower. Is it a Spanish castle or a grand Venetian palazzo?

The Breakers in Palm Beach Florida has lured generations of discerning travelers to this picture perfect and idyllic Italian-Renaissance resort on the Atlantic Ocean. Visit Silver Springs, Florida's First Tourist Attraction

Silver Springs is a group of artesian springs that feed into the Silver River in Marion County, Florida. It is the largest artesian spring in the world and Florida's oldest tourist attraction, dating back to 1875. In 1985 the state purchased the land surrounding Silver Springs to spare it from development, creating the Silver River State Park. In 1993 the state acquired Silver Springs as well, though it continued to be operated privately. In 2013 the state took over control of Silver Springs, merging it with the adjacent parkland to create Silver Springs State Park.  Today, the World Famous Glass Bottom Boats at Silver Springs State Park near Ocala, Florida give visitors a unique view of the underwater beauty and history of Silver Springs. Knowledgeable captains give a 30 minute tour of the springs that fill the Silver River. Visit Florida's Iconic Museum, the John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art

John Ringling, one of the five original circus kings of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, was blessed with entrepreneurial genius and through his success with the circus and other investments, became quite wealthy. In 1911, John (1866-1936) and his wife, Mable (1875-1929) purchased 20 acres of waterfront property in Sarasota, Florida. In the spirit of America's wealthiest Gilded Age industrialists, John Ringling gradually acquired a significant art collection, including paintings by Peter Paul Rubens, Velàzquez, Poussin, van Dyck and other Baroque masters, as well as rare antiquities from Cyprus. He built a palace for his treasures in a 21-gallery Museum of Art on his Sarasota property. Nearly 100 million dollars (read that twice) has been spent in the past ten years, expanding the museum, revamping the grounds and growing its phenomenal art collection. The Dania Jai Alai fronton, located just east of Federal Highway in downtown Dania, delivers fast paced live game action like no other sport on earth. The Dania Jai Alia is open year around. The ball is typically recorded at speeds of 160 to 170 miles per hour, with world records over 200 MPH. The game is thought to be complex, but is actually incredibly simple. Teams of players compete, one from each team at a time or in doubles (like tennis), against each other in a round robin format until one team reaches 7 or 9 points. The court looks like an enormous racquetball court, about 50 yards wide. There are 6 professional Jai Alai frontons and one amateur fronton in Florida.
