Loveland Ski Area in Georgetown, CO
The Mark's List Gang
The Loveland Ski Area is one of Colorado’s highest ski areas with a summit of 13,010 ft and offers the second highest lift served areas in North America at 12,697 ft (3,870 m). The ski area takes its name from Loveland Pass, which separates it from the Arapahoe Basin ski area. Because of its elevation, over two and a half miles above sea level, Loveland is typically one of the first ski areas to open in North America. The Ski area regularly opens in mid-October.
Loveland offers 93 trails starting at a base elevation of 10,800 feet. 10 lifts serve elevations up to 12,700 feet. The mountain has a vertical drop of 2,210 feet and snowmaking capability covers 160 acres. There are 2 double, 3 triple, 3 quad, 1 surface and 1 magic carpet (ski school only). The average snowfall is an incredible 422 inches based on a 31 year average. The longest run is 2 miles and 13% of the slopes are beginner, 41% are intermediate and 46% are advanced.
The Loveland Ski Area is located on the East side of the Eisenhower Tunnel, through which I-70 crosses the Continental Divide. This makes it among the closest ski areas to Denver (53 miles). Loveland typically has shorter lift lines and less-expensive lift tickets, but at the expense of fewer trails and on-premise amenities. It is however the volume of natural snow that makes Loveland one of the best places in Colorado to ski powder.
