We
recently ran into a list of restaurants in a 1993 Miami
Herald that the Herald proclaimed to be legendary. We thought it
would be fun to see how many are still around and as we work on
that, we'll let you know which ones withstood the test of time
and what we think about them today.
Woody's Famous
Steak Sandwich on Biscayne Boulevard is our first
confirmed find. The restaurant has been around since 1954, but
the menu looks a little updated. Woody's proclaims that the
frying oil doesn't contain trans-fats and although it's nice to
know that they care about our health, it was the steak sandwich
that we were after. We weren't looking for healthy, we were
looking for the real deal.
One bight of
that tasty steak sandwich and we knew that it is still very
deserving of the "famous" description that precedes it in the
restaurants name. Loaded with onions, cheese and a sour cream
and horseradish sauce that sent us into a heavenly discussion
about our favorite steak sandwiches, this was possibly the best
ever.
Woody's
menu also contains burgers, chicken and salads. Yeah right, yer
gonna have a salad in a restaurant with a legendary steak
sandwich? As they say in Philly, "aw-forget-about-it." We did
try the burger and it was just as delicious as the steak
sandwich. The fries were curly, hot and delicious. Did they make
curly fries in the 1950s? Anyway, we also thought the cole slaw
was good and the selection of beer would hit the spot on a hot
summer night.
Another
restaurant now comes with the Mark's List recommendation. Look
for Woody's Famous Steak Sandwich the next time you end up in
North Miami on Biscayne Boulevard. |
