Ouzo's Greek Restaurant Miami Beach Florida

Sometimes you have to pay attention to signs.  While working and listening to the news I heard about a Greek restaurant in South Beach that needed help because street construction was blocking almost all areas around their restaurant.  The restaurant sounded great and I wanted to check them out.

When a fellow “Foodie” friend came to town I decided that this would be the perfect opportunity to see what Ouzo’s Greek Restaurant was all about.  For those familiar with old South Beach nightlife, it is one block behind the old Salvation (now Office Depot) and upon entering, you will be amazed and ready to eat.  The décor alone is simple yet amazing with translucent shell curtains and bleached wood furniture, but the coolest feature of the decor would be the straw thatched ceiling.  We were escorted to our table in the bar, where we received top notch service. Our bartender/waiter has been with Ouzo’s for five years, knows the “ins” and “outs” of the menu, and how best to pair certain menu dishes together.  Ouzo’s was originally in North Beach in the 70th Street area and moved two years ago to the South Beach location and shares a neighborhood with other restaurants and lounges. Ouzo's is the truly an asset to that area.

If going there, one of the best appetizers showpieces to try would be the Cheese Saganaki which is Kefal Otiri cheese that is doused with brandy and set on fire!  Served with bread strips you will taste so much goodness that you will want to get a second one, but you have to get an entrée!  We shared the Skirt Steak with a Parsley and Garlic sauce that is served with Oregano fries and the Stuffed Chicken Breast with Spinach, Feta, Sun-Dried Tomato and Olives that came with a carrots and potatoes.  If you are a fan of Mexican Chimichurry you will want a gallon of the sauce for the Skirt Steak and if you love the brininess of Kalamata Olives you will love the Chicken Breast.  They have a wide variety of wines and beverages to choose from but remember that your Server is there to assist you, so just ask!

The deserts were nothing short of extraordinary, and if you are a Flan Fan, then I would totally recommend their Greek Flan with Pear Slices.  Called Galatobureko in Greek, this is a creamy custard baked in Filo pastry and topped with a honey syrup that must be eaten upon arriving because it is warmed to the perfect temperature and guaranteed to melt in your mouth and the perfect ending to a Greek meal.  Did I forget to mention the Ouzo?  Oh yeah, they have the national liquor of Greece and a full supply at that!

I am so glad that I listened to that broadcast because had I not, I might not have had a meal so special that I will look forward to going back again and again.
