La Bonne Crêpe

la bonne crepe fort lauderdale florida french food wineTwo sisters, Lori and Suzie have been the proprietors of this charming traditional French crêperie since 1993. La Bonne Crêpe has the inviting feel of quaint restaurants found in the rolling, grape covered hills of the French countryside.

The menu has the most serious selection of crêpes I've seen since moving to the United States a few years ago. You'll find crêpes made with chicken, ham, ground sirloin, fish, seafood, several kinds of cheese, a huge assortment of vegetables and of course eggs. For those of you not into crêpes the breakfast menu also includes waffles, pancakes, French toast and traditional egg dishes. Lunch and dinner include plenty of sandwiches, over a dozen salads and about 20 entrees that include everything form chicken and fish to Filet Mignon. The soups are incredible. Did we mention the dessert crêpes?

On our most recent visit we dined on a crêpe filled with fresh chicken, béchamel and gruyere cheese and another crêpe filled with ham, spinach, and béchamel. Both were perfectly prepared and the béchamel, a light cream sauce, was 'to die for'. The chicken was so tender it tore apart with the fork. We needed to add a little pepper salt, but other than that not only were there no complaints, we were thrilled with our choices.

For dessert we ordered a crêpe topped with bananas, strawberries, ice cream and chocolate. You can also get almonds, apples, walnuts, peaches, caramel, raspberry sauce and many other great toppings, some seasonal. Once again, the crêpe was perfect, but the chocolate was so thick and tasty that my dining partner was seriously trying to figure out how to discreetly lick the plate clean! You can't beat that.

When you're down on Las Olas, we highly recommend La Bonne Crêpe
