There's
a new (to Florida) quick service Deli chain, Jason's Deli,
with locations turning up all over Florida. The rest of America
has been exposed to the brand since they opened their first
restaurant in 1988.
The mantra here is real people making real food. Everything they
serve is free of trans fats and msg. The vast majority of side items like the
salsa, steamed veggies, American potato salad, honey
mustard coleslaw, Italian or tuna pasta salad and the fresh fruit
are homemade on the premises daily. All of the sandwiches and salads are made to
order so you can easily customize things (or start from scratch) without it
being any trouble.
There are a number of items that are made
with one or more certified organic ingredients.
The restaurant also includes a soup and
salad bar with a twist. You can skip the deli line, self serve pay by credit
or debit card, load up and go. You can be in and out as fast as you can fill
your plate, which is great for people working nearby with short lunch breaks and
small business owners that don't want to be away from the shop more than a few
minutes.
On our most recent visit we ordered the Club Royale that
is made with smoked turkey breast, premium ham, bacon, lettuce, tomato, Swiss
and cheddar cheese. We also tried Reuben The Great with hot corned beef,
Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and Russian dressing. The sandwich is grilled on rye
bread. There were also cole slaw, chips and the traditional dill pickle wedge
accompanying the sandwiches.
Both of the sandwiches were perfectly prepared. The meats were
very fresh and the remark was made that the Reuben was as close to real New
York deli food as it could get. The ham on the Club Royale was very
flavorful and delicious but it overpowered the turkey a little bit. We'd
definitely order it again, but the flavor of the turkey was almost invisible.
In addition to the salad bar, the menu includes six salads.
There are also several choices served on ciabata and in wraps.
There are seventeen sandwiches. Jason's Deli makes paninis, wrapinis,
stuffed potatoes and muffalettas, a thick, round sandwich similar
to a hero, containing ham, salami, and cheeses that are topped with an olive
salad, a specialty of New Orleans (a muffaletta photo is included above).
Another thing we liked about Jason's Deli is the completely open
sparkling clean kitchen.
All said, kudos to Jason's Deli for running first rate
operation.
