Fernanda’s has 18
sandwiches to choose from, but that also leads your creative side to personally
combine things into many more. As a person that dreams of prosciutto, they have
two sandwiches that will get your taste buds working overdrive. With the
Prosciutto Roma, they make Italy’s most famous sandwich with ripe tomatoes,
fresh mozzarella, thin-sliced prosciutto only to then drizzle it with extra
virgin olive oil, aged balsamic vinegar, and fresh basil on a ciabatta roll. If
that isn’t enough for you and you want some more meat, absolutely go for the
Calabria Combo that is possibly the most perfect Italian sub around. After
choosing whatever type of bread you would like, they then layer thin-sliced
prosciutto, mortadella, salami, provolone they then smother it in seasoned
tomatoes and lettuce to finally top it off with extra virgin olive oil and aged
balsamic vinegar.
Just
recently I revisited Fernanda’s for lunch to explore and had another amazing
creation—The Kenny’s Bronx Burger. The Bronx Burger is just a simple and
delicious lean and tender Boars Head Pastrami sandwich on rye. Paired with
provolone and heated, with just some deli mustard, it was another Home Run.
Next time that I get a chance to go in I will most likely have the Real
Chicken Salad that features hand-carved chicken breast (with no fillers)
that is chopped and blended with celery, sweet onions, and Helman’s Real
Mayonaise. Their Charlie Tuna features white Albacore tuna, Helman’s
Mayonaise, sweet onions, fresh celery, and secret spices that has been a
favorite at Fernanda’s for decades. No meat? No problem! Order the
Venetian Vegetarian that starts with a bed of lettuce that is smothered with
seasoned chopped tomatoes, oil, vinegar then topped with Greek roasted peppers
and Italian marinated eggplant all served on a ciabatta roll.
Fernanda’s International Market
is in the shopping plaza on the South West corner of the Oakland Park Boulevard
and North Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale and will be a place that you will
want to drop by at least once a week for specialty items, but eventually become
a regular at their deli. You will be envy of all your coworkers as you unwrap
your sandwich in the Break Room only to hear people’s stories about the food
they have purchased there. With a helpful and knowledgeable staff you will want
to drop by more often.
