Dixie Pig BBQ

Are you a fan of vinegar and barbeque?  Well, The Dixie Pig BBQ is a genuine North Carolina “Vinegar Base” BBQ within the heart of Oakland Park that is a well-known hot spot for some of the best food and sassy service in Southern Florida.

Before we talk about the food let me point out, we drove past this place about a million times before we finally decided to check it out. It has this redneck aura that just didn't look like a place that you'd find respectable gay folks. When we made our way up to the counter, the server asked is she hadn't been introduced to her and her girlfriend at "Scandals last weekend". And we had. When we presented the Mark's List credit card she remarked that her son is also a restaurant manager, "and he's Gay." So anyway, no more worries here!

dixie pig bbq restaurant fort lauderdale florida reviewA sign of a great barbeque place is when the pulled meat is cooked separate from the sauce so that you are able to inspect and appreciate it before eating.  Well, at The Dixie Pig that’s exactly what you are going to get—great food at an affordable price.  Their specialty is the 14 hour smoked North Carolina BBQ Sandwich with your choice of hand-shredded pork, beef, or chicken on a roll with either a vinegar or a BBQ sauce, but the best is the Carolina Treat.  The Carolina treat is a thin, sweet BBQ Sauce. If you are not a big fan of BBQ, there are plenty of things to choose from, and my favorite is their Philly that is grilled with sautéed onions, peppers, and mushrooms and then topped with melted provolone cheese and served on a fresh Hoagie Roll.

The Dixie Pig has a vast menu of delightful southern cooking including twelve different sandwiches, Brunswick stew, ribs & chicken, wings, burgers & hot dogs, wraps, as well as main course dinners like: pork chops, meatloaf, and country fried steak.  With a menu like The Dixie Pig’s, you could literally eat there every week and never eat the same thing twice within six months!   If you are in the mood for some no-nonsense barbeque at reasonable prices and the opportunity to meet some interesting people, then head on over to The Dixie Pig on Dixie Highway just South of Commercial.
