Don’t
you just love uncovering new and fantastic places to have a meal that
are affordable to eat at more than once in a while? Well, just over the
bridge on NE 6th across from KMart you will find Candela
Latin and Mediterranean Restaurant. This six table and five bar
seat restaurant makes you feel like you are in both a restaurant and
cozy enough that you will get to know the owner Armando and his wife and
family.
I first heard about Candela while at a pool party that they were
catering and was able to sample some of the food before going in, which
made me want to go in. First, the kebabs are amazing,
fresh and grilled to perfection with just the right amount of crunchies
and crispies all while keeping the juiciness of the meat at the perfect
consistency. They have a fairly lengthy Breakfast Menu that
includes a ham, cheese, and egg sandwich on ciabatta bread with fries,
eggs with ham or sausage, slow roasted pork with three eggs, fritattas,
Greek omelets, or you could do a la carte and create your own
breakfast. Their Lunch menu is amazing and I had the Lemon & Garlic
Crispy Chicken that came with white rice and black beans that, if
you are in the mood for non-breaded fried chicken with skin, this is the
dish you need to get! I almost forgot how good fried chicken skin could
be.
They also have a pan-seared fish fillets, Ropa Vieja,
Rib Eye Palaomilla, Cuban Style Slow Roasted Pork, Grilled
Chicken Breast with vegetables (which look amazing), Picadillo
Habanera con Tostones which are Havana style ground beef stew and
double fried Plantains, as well as plenty of other things that will make
your mouth water.
This is a great place to go to sit back and relax, to call up and Take
Out (and pass it off as your own), or better yet—call ahead and have
them Cater your next event. They have Lunch Specials for only $5.75 and
are good from Monday to Saturday until 5:30pm. Drop by and tell Armando
