Brokeback Mountain Scores at
Oscar Nominations |
|
Early Tuesday Morning it was announced that
Brokeback Mountain
received 6 academy award nominations, and they are: Best
Film, Best
Male Actor
(Heath
Ledger), Best
Male Supporting Actor
(Jake
Gyllenhaal), Best
Director
(Ang
Lee), Best
Female Supporting Actress
(Michelle
Williams),
and Best
Screenplay.
Jason Bell, Publisher
of
Hotspots Magazine
said “This
film is putting gay love between two men into the homes of
Middle-America. The huge success of this film is single
handily showing the world that gay people are just the same as
everyone else.” Whereas there is no official way of
influencing the people voting for the winners of the Oscars I urge
everyone who hasn’t seen this movie to see it and show
Hollywood
how supportive we are of quality Gay & Lesbian films. |

Press Release from Outlawz |
|
“As many loyal supporters have followed the Outlawz for the last
three years, we feel an explanation of our recent decision is in
order. We present this to you in an attempt to answer any questions
that you may have, to dispel any rumors that may be circulating and
to clarify the relationship between the Outlawz and Manhattan South.
To start, we negotiated in early agreements with Manhattan South to
promote Country & Western Dancing as volunteers for three years. We
dedicated ourselves to promote Country & Western Dancing in a way
that would motivate the community to explore this unique American
past time. Our commitment was monumentally completed at the end of
the 3 Year Anniversary Party held at Manhattan South on
January 21, 2006. At that point in time our mission and commitment
was fully satisfied. Upon fulfilling our commitment with results way
beyond our wildest expectations and intrinsic satisfaction beyond
compare; we have decided to take a break from our Saturday night
activities. As some insight, our efforts encompassed more that just
acting as the DJ’s on Saturday. To the contrary, it is an ongoing
process, which doesn’t stop when the night is over. Although
individually our reasons are different, we arrived at the same
bittersweet conclusion, we must take a break. We do this with both
heavy hearts and mixed emotions. The experience is near and dear to
our hearts. Our “hiatus”, although saddening, is what we decided we
need. We are not disappearing, just taking a little downtime.
As we “regroup”, our relationship with Manhattan South harbors no
ill will and vice versa. We wish continued success to Manhattan
South in providing Country & Western Dance to the community. They
in turn wish us well, too. We all move in the new directions with
all the best intensions!” |

Winterparty
and MGLFF present Movie Under the Stars featuring
a favorite from the 7th annual MGLFF (Guys and Balls)
on Wednesday, March 1st at
8:00PM at the Surfcomber Hotel (1717 Collins Avenue).
If “misfit gay sports comedies” can be called a whole new genre
of film, then Guys and Balls takes that genre to a whole
new level of hilarity. It’s got a double-entendre title (this is
a soccer flick), lots of goofy sports stunts and revealing
locker room scenes, a cute lovelorn hero, and a team full of
every possible wacky homo - from studly nurse and femmy Turk to
a horny leather-bear threesome. Throughout, the humor lurches in
fresh new directions, with laugh-out-loud sight gags and a wry
send-up of silly sports machismo. In a rural German town where
soccer is everything, Ecki’s the champion goalie who just lost
the game. As if that’s not bad enough, the other players
discover he’s gay and banish him from the team. Vowing revenge,
Ecki sets off to a nearby city to start his own all-gay squad
and challenge the homophobic heteros. It’s an uphill battle,
taking wide-eyed Ecki from a hospital delivery room (enter
studly nurse) to the slings of an S/M sex-club (enter
leather-bears). Meanwhile, back at home, Ecki’s weary parents
endure homophobic gossip and a nonstop barrage of anal-sex jokes
from a cranky old man. If Ecki’s team can ever get their game
together and take on the hometown squad, we’re in for a raucous
culture clash. Guys and Balls never takes its' coming-out
tale too seriously, thank goodness and it keeps the romance
light and sexy. After all, it’s only a game! (In German with
English Subtitles) Ticket Prices are $15 in
advance (at WinterParty.com)
and $20 at the Door.
“Beware The Eyes Of Mars’ a musical about Alienation will be
playing at the Broward Library Theatre from March 3-12.
The Eastsider says it’s “Star Wars meets 1960’s
Hairspray, in a fun “Broadway Styled” musical adventure!”
Profits from the show go to Kids In Distress. To hear
music from the show or to buy tickets go to
