Carnival Center for the Performing Arts, through its partnership with the United Way, invites audiences to share their holiday spirit with those less fortunate by bringing an unwrapped gift to performances at the Center this holiday season. Gift donations will be collected inside the entrance of each theater lobby through Friday, December 21. Gifts are also accepted at any time during box office hours: 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. Monday-Friday; beginning at noon on weekends when there is a performance scheduled; and two hours before every performance. Gifts should be appropriate for young people between the ages of 1 and 16. Team Fahrenheit is the newest all male Country Western Dance Team in South Florida, sponsored by Scandals Saloon. The team is made up of a eclectic group of men that met through line dancing and two stepping. Fahrenheit performs at Scandals Saloon, as well as other local venues. Fahrenheit's ultimate goal is to compete in the Tampa Bay Yo Ho Hoedown at the 15th Annual Convention of the IAGLCWDC, May 23 - 25, 2008.

Lèche-Vitrines Art Alliance

Delicate Nuances, an exhibition of over 50 original, primarily figurative works by Boyton Beach artist Jerome T. Glickman and Miami artist Hans Feyerabend will be on view at Lèche-Vitrines Art Alliance  from December 15 - January 12. Ranging in size from 12" x 12" to 48" x 72" the work consists of mixed media drawings and paintings on paper and canvas, digital photo collages, and pewter sculptures.  The inspiring artwork work in this exhibition is the product of two exceptional, figurative expressionist artists working with an almost ostracized subject, the human figure.  Many artists working at this time have shied away from depicting not only the human figure, but more noticeably the nude, in search of a more mainstream and sellable subject.  Not only do these artists brazenly feature the often nude, human figure in their work, they do it with explosive color pallets, deliberate brushstrokes and evocative gestures.  The work becomes autonomous and the subject is forgotten. The Opening Reception is Saturday, December 15, from 7:00-10:00PM.  Both artists will be in attendance.

Bowling for Shadowood at Manor Lanes

As many of you know, Shadowood II is a home where those who would otherwise be living on the street, can call home. Each month we hold a bowling social in Wilton Manors, and this month is especially important, because it gives all of us a chance to make the holidays a little more special for those who are less fortunate than ourselves. The event is this coming Friday, December 14th, at 9:30pm, at Manor Lanes. We are doing it a little early this month, since the Shadowood II Holiday Party is on the 16th. This party is put together for the residents of Shadowood II, and gives them a little cheer during this tough time in their lives. It's probably a little hard for many of us to imagine the struggle of trying to find something to eat at this time of year, let alone, trying to find a place to sleep at night. While being part of our social may seem to be a minor part of our lives, I can tell you from the smiles of those living at Shadowood II, it means so much. Obviously, we would like to appeal to everyone to come out on Friday and help us make this event one of the best yet. Even if you are not interested in bowling, come out, buy some raffle tickets, have a few drinks and make some new friends. For those who would like to do a little something extra, feel free to bring a small unisex gift that we can hand out at the Holiday Party, on December 16th. The residents can always use even the bare essentials, like toothpaste, toothbrushes, bath soap, shampoo, conditioner, etc, and it gives them a little something to open up and let's them know people care.
