Pageant production company Halavin Productions and cosmetic and skincare company Fierté will hold a casting call June 24 for young women interested in competing in the preliminary pageant season for Miss Florida Teen USA 2008 and Miss Florida USA 2008. Girls ages 14-17 are eligible to compete within the Teen division and young women ages 18-26 within the Miss division. “We’re looking for goal-oriented young women 14-26 to represent their hometown,” said Halavin Productions director and former competitor Angie Halavin. “The benefits from pageant participation are significant, let alone winning. Contestants gain increased confidence, poise and self-esteem through their participation. These qualities will serve them throughout their lives.” Contestants are given life-skills coaching and pageant winners will receive a total prize package in excess of $15,000, including a $10,000 beauty package from presenting sponsor Fierté Cosmetics. Each contestant will receive training in setting and achieving goals, dealing with stress, public speaking and public presentation. “We’re delighted to work with these young women not only to become pageant queens but to become well-rounded young women,” said Gregory Yap Sam, Fierté CEO and coach to two Miss World titleholders. As presenting sponsor for all Halavin Productions pageants, Fierté Cosmetics provides a beauty package to the each titleholder that includes cosmetics and skincare products, make-up application, hair consultation, custom-designed couture gown, swimwear, head shots, and coaching on walking, interviewing and personal presentation. The casting call will begin 11 a.m. at Fierté’s flagship studio, 658 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale in Victoria Park Shoppes. Organizers will look to pre-qualify contestants for Miss Broward County Teen USA and Miss Broward County USA, both to be held November 4. Participants will be reviewed on beauty, intelligence, poise, personal achievement, physical fitness, personal style, leadership and contribution to the community. Each should be prepared to present walking and posing skills, give a 30-second monologue and receive a 3-minute panel interview. Participants should bring a head shot, full body photograph, and a pair of high-heel shoes of at least three inches in height. Organizers also will review contestant expectations. With more than 18 years industry experience, family-owned Halavin Productions is dedicated to producing Florida’s finest preliminary pageants. The company also produces the Miss Oakland Park Teen USA and Miss Oakland Park USA pageants, the Miss Pembroke Pines Teen USA and Miss Pembroke Pines USA pageants, and the Miss Homestead/Florida Keys Teen USA and Miss Homestead/Florida Keys USA pageants. SAY UNCLE, from TLA Releasing, opens August 14. SAY UNCLE was shown at MGLFF this past April. About The Film: A comical clash of suspicion, fear, and misunderstanding in this "not-quite-black" comedy marks the directorial debut of Peter Paige (Showtime's "Queer as Folk"). Starring Peter Paige, Kathy Najimy, Anthony Clark, Jim Ortlieb with Gabrielle Union and Melanie Lynskey. Portland-based artist Paul Johnson (Peter Paige), who happens to be gay, returns from his telemarketing job one day to some very distressing news - his closest friends, the Fabers, are moving to Japan, and they're taking Paul's two year-old godson Morgan with them. Shifting into serious denial mode, Paul misses their final departure, but ultimately faces the truth that the Fabers are gone and aren't coming back .When Paul's friend Russell (Anthony Clark) convinces him to “get back out in the world,” Paul ventures out to play with some kids at the local playground. Inspired to find creative ways to maintain the youthful exuberance he feels, Paul begins to explore every opportunity that might afford him contact with children: working in a toy store, babysitting, advertising himself as a nanny (aka "manny"), even considering adoption. Watching Paul's natural, playful chemistry with the children, one local mother, Maggie Butler (Kathy Najimy), wonders who this amazing "Super Dad" is. Upon further investigation, she determines that maybe Paul is up to no good and decides to rally her neighbors to take action.
