Margaret started performing stand-up at age 16 in a comedy club called The Rose & Thistle above a bookstore her parents ran. Soon after, she won a comedy contest where first prize was opening for Jerry Seinfeld. She moved to Los Angeles in the early '90s and lived in a house with several other young performers. Still in her early twenties, Cho hit the college circuit, where she immediately became the most booked act in the market and garnered a nomination for Campus Comedian of The Year. Arsenio Hall introduced her to late night audiences, Bob Hope put her on a prime time special and, seemingly overnight, Margaret Cho became a national celebrity. In 1994, she starred in a short-lived ABC sitcom called All-American Girl. In 1999, Margaret chronicled her experience on the sitcom in an off Broadway one-woman show called I'm The One That I Want. The show was extremely well received, toured the U.S., and was made into a concert film and a best-selling book of the same name. After the success of her first show, Margaret launched Notorious C.H.O. in 2001. Margaret embarked on her third sold-out national tour, Revolution, in 2003. The tour ultimately grossed 4.4M and was heralded as "Her strongest show yet!" by the Chicago Sun Times. That same year the CD was nominated for a Grammy for Best Comedy Album of the Year. This year, Margaret was the recipient of the first ever Best Comedy Performance award at the 2007 Asian Excellence Awards. She also recently received the First Amendment Award from the ACLU of Southern California, and the Intrepid Award from the National Organization for Women (NOW). She has also been honored by GLAAD, American Women in Radio and Television, the Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF), the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF), and PFLAG for "making a significant difference in promoting equal rights for all, regardless of race, sexual orientation or gender identity."

Bob Carr Performing Arts Center at 600 west Amelia Street in Orlando presents The D-List Diva Kathy Griffin on Tuesday Jan 15th. Later, she began to focus on mocking celebrities and her act currently consists of recounting embellished stories involving celebrities. Occasionally, she is the butt of her own humor, particularly with regard to her D-List status.

The Witness Screening

The Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festivals next screening will be of “The Witness” and be shown on January 29th at 7:30 at the Gateway Cinemas in Fort Lauderdale. A film by André Téchiné. Manu arrives in Paris, where he shares a cheap hotel room with his sister Julie. He strikes up a joyous, chaste friendship with Adrien, a wealthy doctor in his early fifties who opens Manu's eyes to a different way of life. On a trip out on a speedboat, Adrien introduces Manu to Sarah and Mehdi, a young couple who have just had their first child. An unplanned love affair and the onset of the AIDS epidemic - seen by the media and in the collective imagination as a shameful, modern-day plague - upset the ordered tranquility of their individual destinies. Each of them becomes a protagonist in - and witness to - a contemporary tragedy, where those who don't die may emerge stronger, but not undamaged. For more information go to www.Mglff.com

Caldwell Theatre Company

Buckle your seatbelts and get ready for the ride of your life when Caldwell Theatre Company World Premieres Michael McKeever’s riot of a comedic farce, Suite Surrender this January 13 - February 17. This multiple award-winning South Florida playwright’s side-splitting comedy made its Play Reading debut at Caldwell last year, where audiences raved.  It’s 1942, and the luxurious Palm Beach Royale Hotel is under siege as two of Hollywood’s biggest divas who despise each other vie for the same suite.  Mistaken identities, overblown egos, double entendres, and one pampered little lap dog round out this fall-down-laughing comedy. Featuring the multiple award-winning cast of Kay Brady, Elizabeth Dimon, SuEllen Estey, John Felix, Autumn Horne, Michael McKeever, Pat Nesbit, David Perez-Ribada, and Tom Wahl.  Suite Surrender is directed by Joe Warik who brought us the Carbonell Award-Winning Lend Me A Tenor. Winner of two Carbonell Awards (The Garden of Hannah List and Charlie Cox), and three Curtain Up Awards (Running with Scissors, Open Season and Sexy & Miggs), Michael McKeever has written 15 plays.  From That Sound You Hear, his first play that premiered in 1996, to Suite Surrender, Michael McKeever’s oeuvre includes comedies, dramas, thrillers and farce. Get ready to roll in the aisles and let the laughter wash over you.  Only at Caldwell this January 13
