In
Yes Man,
Carl Allen ( Jim
Carrey)
is challenged to say yes
to everything that comes
his way in his life for
one whole year, leading
to a series of comic
events.
The film is based on the true story
and 2005 biography 'Yes
Man' by British humorist
Danny Wallace.

After Killing seven people in a
an automobile accident, An IRS agent (Will Smith) embarks on an
extraordinary journey of redemption by forever changing the lives of
seven strangers. The movie's name,
Seven Pounds
is a reference to something Will Smith's character gives
(we
know, but we're not giving it away)
in return for his atonement. The movie has
been compared to The Sixth Sense for it's surprise reveal.

Nothing But The Truth
is a 2008 thriller
written and directed by
Rod Lurie. The story
centers on a female
newspaper reporter (Kate
Beckinsale) who outs a
CIA agent and is
imprisoned for refusing
to reveal her source.
Actor David Schwimmer
plays Beckinsale's
husband and Angela
Bassett is the
supportive editor in
chief at the Washington
newspaper where
Beckinsale’s character
works. Actor Noah Wyle
portrays the lawyer
placed in charge of
defending her. The cast
includes Matt Dillon as
the prosecutor, Vera
Farmiga as the CIA
agent, and Alan Alda as
the attorney who tries
to free the reporter
from jail.
Nothing but the Truth
parallels the case of
Valerie Plame, whose
status as a CIA agent
was exposed in the media
after her husband,
Ambassador Joe Wilson,
wrote a New York Times
op-ed piece charging the
Bush administration with
manipulating
intelligence to justify
the invasion of Iraq.

In
The Day the Earth Stood Still,
a representative of an alien race that went through drastic
evolution to survive its own climate change, Klaatu (Keanu Reeves)
comes to Earth to assess whether humanity can prevent the
environmental damage they have inflicted on their own planet. Klaatu
himself already has a negative opinion of humans, and when detained
by Regina Jackson, the United States Secretary of Defense, and
barred from speaking to the United Nations, he decides they shall be
exterminated so the planet – with its rare ability to sustain
complex life – can survive. Dr. Helen Benson (Jennifer Connelly) and
her stepson Jacob (Jaden Smith) finally convince Klaatu humans are
worth saving. |
Doubt
centers on a nun who confronts a priest after suspecting him of
sexually abusing a new black student, but the priest denies the
charges. Much of the film's quick-fire dialogue tackles themes of
religion, morality and authority. Doubt is an film adaptation of the
John Patrick Shanley play Doubt. Starring Meryl Streep, Philip
Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams and Viola Davis, the film is directed by
Shanley, produced by Scott Rudin and shot in New York City. |
If
there's one thing everyone can agree on, its that family time isn't
always a walk in the park.
In Nothing Like the Holidays,
two of today's most talented actors, John Leguizamo (The Happening,
The Take) and Freddy Rodriguez (Six Feet Under, Bobby), join Debra
Messing (Will & Grace, The Starter Wife), Alfred Molina (The Da
Vinci Code, Spider-Man 2), and director Alfredo de Villa (the
award-winning Washington Heights) to tell the humorous and
heartwarming story of one unforgettable family holiday. |
 Breakfast with Scot,
Mark's List Review
µµµµµ
(yes, only one T) brings vibrant life into an ordinary Restoration Hardware
style Toronto gay couple who get more than they bargained for out of
their relationship. When a family member (Sam's brother) cannot be
located, Eric and Sam are selected to host the boy until the brother is
found; Sam and Eric thought they were plenty gay until the boy, Scot
shows up and transforms everyone around him with glitter, Christmas music, and
White Gardenia perfume. In short, this is a coming out movie, not for the
flamboyant child, but for the two adults living their life on the down low.

Milk,
Mark's List Review:
µµµµµ
The story is simple; Harvey Milk, played by Sean Penn, is a closeted
man losing his soul in a dead end job. A chance encounter in a new York Subway
staircase leads him to meet a younger man, Scott Smith, played by James Franco,
who will become his lover, confidant and supporter. In an attempt to live their
lives openly and unashamed, they move to San Francisco where Milk is inspired to
run for public office, in hopes of being the first openly Gay elected official,
while at the same Anita Bryant is beginning in Miami what would become a
nationwide crusade of intolerance that ultimately leads to Milk's murder. To

The
film is about
Bolt (John
Travolta), a small
white German Shepherd who has lived
all his life on the set of a TV show in which he portrays a superhero dog. As a
result, he thinks that his superpowers, and events on film, are real. When he is
accidentally shipped from his Hollywood soundstage to New York City, he embarks
on a cross-country journey to reunite with his owner and co-star, Penny (Miley
Cyrus). Along the way, Bolt teams up with a jaded housecat named
Mittens (Susie
Essman) and a TV-obsessed
hamster named Rhino (Mark
Walton) who also happens to be an extreme Bolt fanboy, and eventually
he discovers that he doesn't need superpowers to be a hero.
Bolt
is scheduled to be
released in the
United States on
November 14, 2008. |
