Meet the Spartans Dont Bother **(Two Stars)

Meet the Spartans was honestly a huge let down.  The directors Aaron Seltzer, and Jason Friedberg seemed more interested in collecting titles in this parody, than they did investing humor into the plot lines. 

I will say that it was surprising to see how many things were brought into this melting pot.  There were references to numerous films like James Bond 007,  300, Shrek 3, Happy Feet, Stop The Yard, Spiderman 3, Ghost Rider, The retired Rocky.  They spoofed TV Shows like, Dancing with the Stars, Deal or No Deal, American Idol, Heros, Ugly Betty, and both the Tyra Banks Show and America's Next Top Model.   We even got to watch a few commercials Like Gatorade, Dentine Ice, and Budweiser.   The writers even found time to poke fun at the video game Grand Theft Auto. However a parody is incomplete without references to current pop culture like Paris and Nicole, "Brangelina" adopting foreign babies or Britney Spears shaving her head and showing her vagina... well it actually featured a lot of girls now wearing panties. 

This movie is best watched on DVD, where you can watch and choose not to pay attention in the privacy of your own home.  I would have said I hated it, but I couldn't totally trash this film because it included so many gay references. I also liked the Spartan men that were really muscular with big packages.   Go see this film with caution, you may be bored, and wish you were in another theatre.
