Zodiac UMMM It was Good ***(Three Stars)

Umm yeah, it was good?  Do I sound convincing?  Ok maybe not, it was a good movie but it is not what you would expect from the trailers.  Ok let me lay it out for you.  In the first hour over half the theatre left.  This is NOT a scary movie at all.  Yes it was based on a true story, but it would have been more interesting to get into the mind of the killer, or maybe make it about the hunt or the kill.   Instead they told the story from a History class point of view, and that is just how you felt as if you were in class learning about the Zodiac Killings.

I am truly upset for I wanted to like this movie.  I love Jake Gyllenhaal, and have been a big fan of his ever since 2001's Bubble Boy.  In this film he plays Robert Graysmith a Cartoonist for the newspaper.  His character is a bit awkward and extremely curious and becomes quite obsessed, and he played his role brilliantly.   Can we talk about the character stretch for Robert Downey Jr. who plays Paul Avery a  reporter that is drunk and high the entire movie.   Needless to say his character was believable.

I loved that all the detectives had a different favorite suspect, I felt that was a realistic touch, especially since the case was never really solved.   The killings were painful, only because they were based on actual events.  However don't worry they are not gruesome or graphic.

I didn't hate this movie, don't get me wrong.  However I had high expectations for it, and felt it could have been so much better had they not taken the most boring approach to tell this story.  If you are a History buff, or just fascinated with Mystery you enjoy this movie.

BTW -  Did I mention this History Class was 3 hours long.
