Go See this Movie ****(Four Stars)

This movie was an enjoyable coming of age tale abut a boy who is discovering his sexuality and struggling with the dangers of being in love with his straight best friend.

This is a gay movie, but you cannot really tell for the first half its very mainstream yet when it comes to the gay thoughts or feelings it's genuine.  The Germans (yes this was subtitled) really have a knack for creating gay movies that are so open and honest almost as if it were reality.  It also deals with the normal insecurities that young people face as they are growing older.  The director Marco Kreuzpaintner is also young and gay and was obviously really  tuned in to his subject matter.

We follow Tobi (Robert Stadlober) who has fallen for his best friend and rowing team mate.  It deals with his frustrations of being boys and being young, and yet the distraction of girls when his best friend falls in love, and then feeling the pressure to also find a girl.  This movie is tough but as an audience we can relate for its emotionally mature and honest.
My favorite scene is when a really hot guy from the gay rowing team (cant remember who was who with the German names) who told the other guy from Tobi's team that he was not queer but was pretending for a paper, that was until he forced a kiss on him, then the straight guy ran off and hid for he was confused.
There was also a very touching and erotic love scene as Tobi let a boy from the gay team apply some tanning lotion onto his body, and then they got hot and heavy.  It was nice.
Go see this movie for it will take you back to that summer where your whole life changed.  You will love this movie.
Summer Storm Summer Storm

Summer Storm (May 12)
Foreign Drama. In German language with English subtitles. Tobi and Achim have been best friends for years. As cox and oarsman, they have helped their team win several rowing cups in the past and are now looking forward to the big regatta in the countryside. But, this trip is no summer camp and the first problems soon arise. As Achim's relationship with his girlfriend grows more serious, Tobi starts to realize that his feelings for Achim run deeper than he's willing to admit to himself. He feels confused, unsure of himself and increasingly left out. When the much-anticipated Berlin girls' team is being replaced by a team of athletic, cliché-busting young gay men, Tobi and his teammates are suddenly forced to grapple with their prejudices, their fears, and, perhaps, their hidden longings. As the tension grows, Tobi, Achim and the others head toward a confrontation as fierce and ultimately as liberating as the summer storm gathering over the lake. 98 minutes. MPAA Rating: R (for sexuality, language and drug content).
