Did you ever
wonder while you were in College what life was going to be
like in fifteen years? This movie follows a group of guys
that sing in a college jazz ensemble and then jumps forward
fifteen years. One of the college buds is getting married
and asks his College friends to sing at his wedding. They
all get together and bring their wives and girl
friends and spend a week before the wedding practicing and
rehearsing to prepare themselves for the wedding. It
reminded me of a family reunion among friends. |
|
The focus of Shut Up and Sing
is not about singing; it is on the friends relationships and
their fear of getting older and not accomplishing what they
set out to when they were young. The emphasis of the movie
was on how you should embrace life. There were many fights
and squabbles, however that should be expected among old
friends and essentially helps develop the characters and
bring them together. |
|
The
characters were believable and real and played by
several actors from TV shows. My favorite was
Molly Shannon. Molly's
character was so real and raw. (Editors Note: Molly
Shannon is also in Gray
Matters at The FLIFF)

A better title for the movie
would be, "Shut UP and Live." The film was so well done that
it could successfully be marketed to a mainstream audience.
Everyone can relate to the story. |
|
Don't see the movie because
you're looking for a Gay theme. One of the college friends
was thought to be Gay, but that was never fully developed.
See the movie because it is well made and an uplifting
true-to-life story. |

Shut Up and Sing
SHUT UP & SING is an ensemble comedy/drama about a group
of guys who sang a cappella together in college and are now
reuniting fifteen years later to sing at a friend's wedding.
With their spouses and significant others in tow, the group
takes a break from their less-than-perfect lives in New York
City to spend a long weekend rehearsing at a rambling family
beach house. Old feuds are stirred up, secrets are revealed,
and relationships are tested as the group reflects on how
their lives have progressed -- and in some cases, regressed
-- since their college heyday. In the end, these lifelong
friends have readjusted their perspective and raise their
voices in song to celebrate what is good and true in their
lives. |
