LOVED IT *****(FIVE STARS) |

John Cameron Mitchell, also
the writer and director of
Hedwig and the Angry Inch
pulls out all the stops for his sophomore film appealing to
a wide audience including all sexual preferences Gay,
straight and bi sexual. When casting his movie he put out a
call to all actors who are comfortable with their bodies and
are not afraid to have real sex on camera. That being said
this movie is of adult nature and not for the young and
inexperienced. It contains Masturbation, real sex, group
orgies, and a S & M relationship with an escort. I wouldn't
say this is porn however I will say that these actors are
not pretending. Unlike porn who's only purpose of a plot
is to lead to sex, this is a movie driven by a story line
and a deep and penetrating plot that causes the audience to
think and ponder our lives, and it happens to have sex in
it, just as many of our real lives do. If you only go to
see this movie because you think it will be a porn or a sex
movie you will be let down, however if you go to see a truly
touching and magnificent story you will love this film.

The movie format was very
much like a novel, where we follow several people at once.
Getting to know them and building a private relationship
with each of them individually before they interact with
each other. We follow two main couples, one of them gay
(two men) and one a straight couple. The gay couple James (Paul
Dawson) and Jamie (PJ
DeBoy) have been together for a few years however
their relationship is a very rocky one and Jamie doesn't
know why or what is bothering his boyfriend. The straight
couple is Sofia (Sook-Yin
Lee) and Rob (Raphael
Barker.) They are a happily married couple and
Sofia is a sex therapist helping others with their sex life
but she has never had an orgasm. Those being the prinicple
characters of the film with many interesting sub characters
like the dominatrix named Severin (Lindsay
Beamish)

The one thing that all of
these characters have in common is the shortbus. Just like
in most elementary schools the special kids rode the short
bus, well this is an adult atmosphere club where people of
all sexual preferences can come and be unique and
different or special. There are many different rooms where
they can come hang out and talk, or dance, or have sex. |

Im sure everyone talking
about this movie will tell you about the real sex, and that
it is explicit. However what they may forget to tell you is
that it is an extremely well written emotional journey where
the characters are forced to overcome and change or develop
as adults, and focuses on all the aspects of being human.
Such as heart ache, depression, being miserable, finding joy
and self discovery. It is also full of such extremely witty
and clever dialog that I want to go watch it again just to
jog down the one liners.

As a gay audience member or
a supporter of queer cinema, I know you do not want to miss
this film for its simply brilliant. I will also tell you
that you do not want to miss the first 10 min of the movie,
for not only do you get introduced to the characters but you
get to see the flexible talents of James (Paul
Dawson.) |

Yes, this film was a
success, not only was it able to get your mind off whatever
it was that was bothering you, but it left you with deep
thoughts to ponder. Im sure you too will love this movie
.... So Go see it. |
