Misty Eyez Drag Queen Movie Reviews
Misty Eyez

LOVED IT *****(FIVE STARS)

This story is both true and touching.  Invincible portrays the "All American Dream," from being a loyal and dedicated fan in the bleachers to being a member of the team and playing on the field, this movie covers all aspects of the beloved sport we all know and love - football.  However, you should know that this movie is not only for football fans. I personally hate sports and yet I thoroughly loved this film.  It is accurate in all of it's depictions of both the people and the period of time the film takes place in.

Leave it to Disney Pictures to make a film that is capable of evoking all of your emotions.  Even I got Misty Eyed.  This is a true underdog story about the Philadelphia Eagles and their rise to the top after a very long losing streak.  Yet it is also a story focusing on the life of Vince Papale (Mark Wahlberg) who is 30 year old substitute teacher and part-time bartender.   We, as the audience, quickly become sympathetic to him for it just seems like he cannot catch a break.  For those of you who have heard the phrase When it rains, it pours" - it's very that.  Papale goes from not being able to pay his bills, to loosing his job, to then loosing his wife and while all around him things seem to be crashing in on him, he doesn't loose grasp of a positive attitude.  He is truly humble about asking for help and doesn't complain.  More men should be like this.  With all the odds stacked against him, through all the trials and tribulations, he is able to persevere and rise to the top.
My favorite line in this film takes place when The Coach asks his wife for advice and she merely replies "A mans character is tested when he is pushed up against it..."
This movie is not just a mere retelling of a great story or even just another pro football epic, it was more than that.  It also about some of the most important aspects of the human condition; camaraderie, determination, support, persistence, atmosphere, and friendship.  There is no doubt in my mind you leave the theatre feeling better about yourself and better about those around you.
All and all I really did love this film, but I have to admit at times  it was a bit emotionally overwhelming... then again maybe that's why I loved it so much.  If you don't intend on seeing a movie this week (due to the horror of hurricane Ernesto) I suggest you change your mind, for this film is truly motivational and full of life lessons for you and whomever you take to the theatre with you.
PS - There is a special treat in the credits that includes actual footage of Papale and the Eagles.

InvincibleInvincible

Sports Drama/Biopic. When the coach of Vince Papale's (Mark Wahlberg) beloved hometown football team hosted an unprecedented open tryout, the public consensus was that it was a waste of time--no one good enough to play professional football was going to be found this way. Certainly no one like Papale--a down-on-his-luck, 30 year-old, substitute teacher and part-time bartender who never even played college football. But against these odds, Papale made the team and soon found himself living every fan's fantasy--moving from his cheap seats in the upper deck to standing on the field as a professional football player. With Greg Kinnear as Coach Dick Vermeil. 1 hour, 45 minutes. MPAA Rating: PG (for sports and some mild language).
