Loved it  *****(Five Stars)

This is an intense psychological thriller / borderline horror film with incredible performances by both Ellen Page (a 14 year old eighth grader named Haley) and Patrick Wilson (Jeff a totally hot 32 year old camera man) and they are not only the two principle actors but they are basically the only two people in the film with lines, and it is mostly shot inside his Los Angeles home.  I was shocked to find out this was director David Slade's first film, it was a remarkable, spectacular, powerful, brilliant and yet disturbing.  A film about a sensitive and little discussed topic of older men meeting young girls off the Internet.  He was truly able to capture not only the characters inner thoughts and emotions as they vary from naive and desperate to fear and loathing, but he was also able to showcase his subjects with intense and spectacular camera angles.  Wow, watch out this director is amazing.

This journey only spends a mere and yet reasonable 20 minutes on its background and character development before it leaps into the intense drama of this film.  And yes it is just that Intense, and it does not let up until the very end, you will be sitting in absolute shock and horror during this whole film.
Don't miss the beginning they meet over the Internet in a chat room with the alias's "ThongGIRL" and "LenseMan" they talk for a few months before Haley has her big sister drop her off at this coffee shop to meet Jeff.  Patrick Wilson was utterly amazing and powerful in his performance as a pedophile, he was completely gorgeous, utterly charming and adorable yet in reality he was sick and twisted and didn't even realize or he didn't want to admit he had a problem.  His emotions and character development in this film were incredible and extremely realistic.  In fact both of the characters are real, people we could really and truly meet on the street or in your church, or at the club, they were not cartoon-ized or creations of fantasy they were real and that hit home even more.  Watch out this could happen to me, and it will change your mind or at least make you second guess meeting people from the Internet.  The best thing about this film is it causes you as the audience to stretch your mind.
You watch in amazement as this little naive teenage girl who appears to be so innocent and yet she truly controls the entire situation. She is super smart and has master mind everything that is about to happen.   Ellen Page was so brilliant and amazing I don't know how they were able to find a child actor that could pull off such a touch role with total accuracy.  This movie was painful to watch but you couldn't bring yourself to look away or to leave the theatre you had to know what was going to happen and what she was going to get away with.
By the way this is not a gore movie and you never see lots of blood, which at first I was disappointed and felt they were not letting me in on what was actually happening, that was until it was explained why we were not able to see.
Lady's and Gentle man you must go see this film, it is painful to watch especially for the men, or those still with their men's parts. The script is utterly amazing and truly brilliant.   As an audience its interesting how we move our sympathies from one character to the other, and then we realize no matter how it ends, everyone is guilty of something truly terrible.   WOW I cannot believe how amazing this movie is.
Hard Candy
Drama and Thriller. A smart, charming teenage girl, Hayley probably shouldn't be going to a local coffee shop to meet Jeff, a 30-something fashion photographer she met on the Internet. But Hayley's ready to have fun, and soon she's mixing screwdrivers at Jeff's place and stripping for an impromptu photo shoot. It's Jeff's lucky night--until his vision blurs and he passes out. Turns out Hayley isn't as innocent as she looks after all. In fact, she has a lot on her mind. Like getting Jeff to confess to his penchant for teenage girls--and to what he did to Donna Mauer, the girl who disappeared from Jeff's favorite coffee shop. When Jeff awakens, he's tied to a chair. If he doesn't cooperate, Hayley has something to help him along--a little surgical procedure she picked up on the Internet. All she needs is an ice pack. And a knife. 99 minutes. MPAA Rating: R (for disturbing violent and aberrant sexual content involving a teen, and for language).
