LOVED IT ***** (Five Stars) |

This vibrant and touching movie will be sure to please
everyone in attendance. We follow the young and determined
Andy Sachs (Anne
Hathaway) a young journalist who moves to the big
city after her college graduation got a great job and finds
herself working as the much abused second assistant for the
widely feared, hard to please and truly vicious
editor-in-chief of "Runway" fashion magazine, Miranda
Priestly (Meryl
Streep). Who by the way was truly brilliant and
demanded every bit of attention as this woman of power. |

The intro is clever, they start in the opening credits
before we are introduced to the cast with comparative
start of the day morning dressing, following a few
different girls and watching each of them put on
lipstick, shoes etc. Emphasizing the differences
between the level of class or glamour of Andy (Anne
Hathaway) and her co workers. Once Andy got
the job she realized she is in way over her head in
the huge and ever encompassing fashion pond as she was
surrounded by pretentious, bitchy and fake piranhas.
Her character development was spectacular, you felt that
you could truly relate to her as she was reluctant to
ever give up and rolled with the punches to be the
best. As the audience you were cheering for her as she
became less and less of the underdog, much thanks to
Nigel (Stanley
Tucci) who plays her "Fairy God Mother" and
sort of takes her under his wing as he subconsciously
helps her and encourages her to persist, and then full
out helps her by giving her a spectacular wardrobe, and
helping her with her transformation to urban fashion
sensation. Andy's life was truly changed from this job,
for the better or for the worse is the question that
could be discussed in the after movie debate, if you are
open to it, so might yours as the audience. |

You do not have to be a fan of fashion to enjoy this movie,
in fact you don't have to be gay but it helps. I was
fortunate to enjoy this movie at the Gateway (Fort
Lauderdale's Gay Movie Theatre) and I honestly feel that the
laughs and comments or the general atmosphere provided from
the mostly gay audience helped me realize the true level of
fierceness, especially with the many many quips or one
liners, that were cleverly woven into this incredibly well
written and acted film with smoothly performed dialogue.

Go see this movie, it was great. Mountains were moved and
the audience was there for the entire journey. BEWARE:
there is lots of fashion in this movie Prada, Chanel, Dolce
& Gabbana, Galliano, Valentino, Donna Karan and Bill Blass
contributed many outfits. I should also tell you that if
you go into this movie not a fan of fashion you may come out
with a new level of appreciation. |
