UMM It was Good ***(Three
Stars) |

If you are a
stereotypical straight male, you will love this movie. Yet
know that if you go see
Crank you will be
signing yourself up for an over the top two hour long big
budget MTV style commercial for energy drinks such as Red
Bull, or Monster with the use of fancy camera angles and
clever cinematography. All inclusive with the adult
language and sexy naked girls/strippers, and tweekers giving
advice on how to get high. |
|
That being said, please note
that there is no real plot in this movie. On the same
token you should also know that it has everything that a
fully packed action movie needs to keep your attention; from
car crashes, to high speed chases, to fights and explosions
- even mid-air battles to the death. It will keep your
heart pounding and keep you guessing about what is about to
happen. This is merely a high paced action movie with many
scenes that involve this crazed hit-man named Chev Chelios (Jason
Statham) who is running full speed ahead. He was
given a deadly Chinese drug that is clogging the pathways to
his vital organs and unless he continues to supply his body
with false adrenaline he will die. All of the stunts were
amazing, yet most were simply unbelievable and a coincidence
that he was able to get away time after time, after time. |

This movie truly evoked all
your senses. I personally loved the flashbacks.
Coincidentally, one of them involved Chelios' right-hand man
(who actually happened to be a drag queen) strutting her
stuff the night that some very important events take place.
I also truly enjoyed the clever usage of camera angles in
which you were provided with split screens and creative
attempts to showcase different people in different locations
both somehow displayed in the same cinematic moment. Ah,
the joys of modern day editing. The sound effect used in
this film were also unbelievable and aided the plot in a
very important way. For instance, you were able to tell
when he was slowing down when his cell phone would ring and
each time the length and pitch would change as he
deteriorated throughout the film. |
|
Some of the scenes are a bit
over the top, like the sidewalk sex scene - however I will
admit it was much needed to keep the flow of the movie and
the audience at peek interest for the plot was simply not
doing it. I guess that's why they went as far as to threw
in a little road-head - to make sure every chauvinistic male
pig got his money's worth. Not only was there no plot,
there also wasn't an ounce of character development from the
characters portrayed in this film, some of which had so much
potential too - not even the lovely
Amy Smart (Eve) who
plays the blonde bimbo girlfriend breaks free from the one
dimensional action film rule of thumb that takes place in
this case. In closing, if you want to go see an
entertaining and fast paced plotless action movie, this one
is your best bet. |

Crank
Action/Adventure and Thriller. Chev Chelios (Jason Statham)
is about to begin his morning with an unexpected wake-up
call. Groggy, practically unable to move and with a heart
that's barely beating, he hears the voice of a thug- who
reveals Chev has been poisoned in his sleep and only has an
hour to live. As it turns out, Chev is a hit man who
freelances for a major West Coast syndicate. A run of the
mill job the night before instead went awry: he let his
target slip away in an effort to quit professional killing
and start a new life with his girlfriend Eve (Amy Smart).
Now, Chev must keep moving to stay alive: the only way to
prolong the poison from stopping his heart is to keep his
adrenaline flowing. As the clock ticks, Chelios cuts a swath
through the streets of Los Angeles, wreaking havoc on those
who dare stand in his way. 83 minutes. MPAA Rating: R (for
strong violence, pervasive language, sexuality, nudity and
drug use).
