Go See It ****(Four Stars) |
|
|
A
surprising success, this Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Coming of
Age film is spectacular all across the board. Its also
a love story between a boy and his dragon. The journey
was also full of Magic and this heartfelt drama and
actually reminded me of my favorite childhood movie,
The NeverEnding Story. I
most enjoyed the self discovery as the boy and his
dragon learned what exactly they were capable of, and of
course together they were much stronger.

I have to tell you I was actually surprised that this
was the young boy, eragon's (Edward
Speleers' ) first movie roll, he was great, you
truly felt his vulnerability and his courage. Keep your
eyez on him as he grows older for he will surely be a total
heart throb. Most of the CGI Graphics were phenomenal, and
after a few moments I forgot that Saphira (voice by
Rachel Weisz) was not a
real dragon. |
|
There
were many things happening in this film but everything
fell by the wayside for me, I truly focused on the
storyline of the boy and his dragon. It was all about
their bond, how the dragon chose him, and they are
eternally bound as one. I loved learning about what
they were capable of as they grew stronger. Yet I must
also tell you, I was eager for the young boys (Ergon
played by Edward Speleers and Murtagh played by
Garrett Hedlund) to
develop a more
Brokeback Mountain
kind of Love. There was definitely an unexplained
chemistry between them, especially towards the end.
(Keep your fingers crossed for the sequel) |
|
I never read the book so I
dont know what was left out, but I will tell you that I
really enjoyed this film, and was glad that the ending was
left wide open for a sequel. Which is called "Eldest" and
is also from the author Christopher Paolini. In the
beginning of the film I felt it was a bit too dark. Which
is the thing I hate most about period pieces, its almost as
if they feel they need to compose the film as if their
technology for lighting and sets were also from that
period.. For example did the King live in a Cave? Yet as
soon as they were able to established their timeline, they
quickly moved into more of a Today feel, yet keeping it
realistic to today, and yet keeping the time realm. |
|
I did find a few flaws with
the storyline however, maybe some things that were rushed
through and not explained. For Example how did the dragon
go from an infant to a full sized adult in mere minutes, and
how did Eragon instantly know some magical words before
anyone taught him. While putting most of their graphics
budget into the dragon, some of the other special effects
fell short of spectacular. |
|
Flaws overlooked, you will be
able to envelop yourself in this fantasy film and love every
minute of it. Go see this movie. |
