If you are looking for an intelligent suspenseful and
scary movie full of tension and creepiness this is sure to
make you leap from your seat, however this is not a horror
movie or a film with blood and guts. This film is based on
the Bell witch which was documented in Tennessee in 1818.
This is a true account of demonic possession and the only
recorded case in American History where a ghost kills a
human. This movie starts off being quite accurate to the
storyline of the Bell Witch tales but then it throws on a
modern twist to leave the audience with deep thoughts and
wondering what just happened... |
|
We start off in the year 2006, present day and you get the
impression that there is a haunting of teenage girl while
her mother is in the next room reading the stories left
behind from the attic, where The Bell Family's belongings
were locked and left un touched. The mother continues to
read... "Our Family had a Secret" and then we flash back to
1818 where Mr and Mrs. Bell (Donald
Sutherland &
Sissy Spacek) are
struggling with the realization that their daughter Betsy (Rachel
Hurd-Wood) is being attacked by a
poltergeist. Initially I was all excited that this would be
two movies in one, a present day story and then a period
piece telling a background story but director
Courtney Solomon was
all over the place, and it was like she almost wanted to
change directions five times but then left in the previous
footage and it leaves audiences quite bewildered. |
|
Initially I got an
The Amityville Horror
feel where they talk of the house that it happened in,
then it turns
The Exorcist with a
twist. Like the real Bell witch stories it starts off with
the daughter being haunted by a ghost named Kate. Like that
story she keeps seeing the little girl on the swing etc, but
then it moves in another direction where the believe Betsy (Rachel
Hurd-Wood) is self inflicting or projecting
torment upon herself due to emotional stress, almost as if
they had forgotten to take out the shots with the little
girl ghost. |
|
This movie is intense, and will be sure to leave a chill in
your bone and it will defiantly stick with you for many
hours after the movie is over. Constantly thinking about
what just happened, partially because its thrilling and
partially because you feel as though you had been led on a
wild goose chase and are not leaving satisfied. No matter
what message you get from this movie you will realize one
thing: The truth will set you free, and in the back of your
subconscious you will be careful who you piss off. It really
stays with you. |
