About
a year ago we noticed a restaurant on South Howard (SoHo) in
Tampa called Daily Eats. The South Howard Avenue area, near Hyde
Park, Tampa’s Bayfront and MacDill Air Force base has long been
a popular area for independent restaurateurs’ to try out new
ideas. Over time the good ideas have risen to the top and the
area, which includes world famous Bern’s Steak House,
The Lime
and
Taqueria is now home to some of the best Surprising Dining
in Florida.
The name Daily Eats, kind of
implies a little bit of low class grub and go, but that’s not
what we found!
Daily Eats is a diner-style
restaurant, open early for a weekday breakfast and weekend
brunch that includes an exhaustive selection of eggs. There’s
Benedict, scrambled, poached, fried and three egg omelets just
about any way you dream up. The eggs are served with salmon,
scallions, steak, ham, feta, olives, bacon, sausage, turkey,
guacamole, Swiss, provolone, mushrooms and even more that we are
still trying to remember (and a few things we’re trying to
forget).
We heard some people at the
table next to us arguing over getting a side of pancakes or
waffles and so assuming they must be good, we ordered some of
those on the side as well. The menu includes an Oreo Cookie
pancakes or waffles, and my guess is that anyone under ten years
old must adore Daily Eats for coming up with that brilliant
idea! You can get your waffles and pancakes (whole wheat by the
way) with bananas, strawberries, blueberries and candied pecans.
I think there may have been more selections but that’s what this
link to the
breakfast menu is for.
So
how was the food? Great. We enjoyed everything our waitress
brought out. The home fries served with the eggs were made from
red potatoes and the poached egg on the Benedict was perfectly
cooked; soft centered without being runny. The Hollandaise was
flavorful without overpowering the ham, English muffin and egg.
We also enjoyed the pancakes and waffles so much that on our
next visit we plan to build our breakfast around that!
The service was extremely
fast and friendly, our food was out quicker than we expected and
everything was clearly prepared from scratch. Quite an
impressive Monday morning meal was served at Daily Eats. Daily
Eats is also open for
lunch and dinner and there is a
take-out menu that those of you in Tampa will find very
handy!
