West Palm
Beach is once again a
growing city. The skyline of
the city beautiful is
constantly changing. New
residential buildings,
condos and attractions are
common downtown and an
increasing number are being
built. The city
recently built a new
convention center, downtown library and city
hall. This
is all apart of a City
Center, that also
includes a waterfront park,
photographic & arts center
and new shops.
CityPlace, is
an upscale mixed-use
shopping mall complex,
including apartments and
offices, located in downtown
West Palm Beach, Florida
along South Rosemary Avenue.
Macy's and
the
Muvico 20 movie theatre
are among the anchors.
Besides shopping and movies,
CityPlace is now at the
forefront of West Palm Beach
nightlife, in conjunction
with the establishments
located on nearby Clematis
Street. The Raymond F.
Kravis Center for the
Performing Arts and the Dreyfoos
School of the Arts are
located within walking
distance of CityPlace, as is
the newly-built Palm Beach
County Convention Center. A
trolley-bus circles downtown
between CityPlace and
Clematis Street. CityPlace
also consists of The Harriet
Himmel Theater.
Although Palm
Beach and West Palm Beach
are the more recognized
cities, smaller Lake Worth
to the south is home to the
vast majority of the
County's Gay and Lesbian
population. Lake Worth is
home to Palm Beach PrideFest
and the Gay and Lesbian
Community Center is one of
the oldest and largest in
the United States,
originally funded by grants
from the County.
