Pom Pom's Orlando

Pac Man couch at PomPom'sThe charming, unassuming storefront at 67 N Bumby Avenue in Orlando, invites you in with an array of rope lighting like a beacon in the night at 2:45 am. Known as a late nite comfort food utopia, Pom Pom’s Teahouse and Sandwicheria, attracts many patrons at this odd hour.

On this night a chill DJ spins vinyl at a pleasant volume at the end of the deli case. The aroma of great pressed sandwiches greets your nostrils about the same time the sound of Lindsay welcoming you from behind the counter, reaches your ears. Her bright eyes lit by a familiar smile make you feel right at home instantly.

As I am seated at one of the five tables that line the wall opposite the counter I begin looking at the spiral bound few page menu. My eyes are drawn to the pressed sandwich selection (partly because of the aroma). I decide on Mama Mama Ling Ling Thanksgiving, the number 13 ($8), accompanied with German potato salad added for a tiny fee. Lindsay reminds me if I had come earlier that they offer a great selection of local micro-brews and wine. I decided on the Fountain of Youth tea which sounded light and refreshing.

PomPoms RestaurantAs she returns with my tea, I begin to notice that I am surrounded by local art. The tea is refreshing and complex, inspiring me to learn more about tea. Shortly after, my sandwich arrived. It was all that the menu promised, sliced turkey breast, mashed potatoes, and holiday chutney. I specified white bread but you do have a choice. It felt like Thanksgiving had come a couple weeks early and between two pieces of toasted bread.

I can not wait to return on a weekend morning and try her breakfast menu. Pom Pom’s is a great find with great hours, friendly service, fun environment, and best of all food to live for!
