Schnitzel HausIt's not easy to find the best German cuisine in South Florida. But the restaurant and kitchen of chef Alex Richter brings exceptional Bavarian cuisine and atmosphere to the Miami area. Schnitzel Haus is a warm and authentic German dining experience and a traditional Biergarten that has been filled with paintings and old world memorabilia brought to America by the Richter family.

All of the meals at Schnitzel Haus start with warm bread and many include salads. In the German tradition many dishes like sauerbraten (marinated roast beef), schweinebraten (pork roast) and roast duck are slow cooked and served with sides that include spaetzle, knoedel, home fries, sauerkraut, red cabbage, mashed potatoes, vegetable medley or cucumber salad. Wondering what spaetzel is? You'll have to make the trip to Schnitzel Haus and find out! Fish like salmon and Idaho trout come with steamed vegetables and potatoes. The potato pancakes are outstanding with two super-sized cakes served with sour cream and apple sauce.

As you would expect from the restaurant's name, schnitzels dominate the menu with nine types. The veal cutlet natur schnitzel is top-notch, the cutlet seared in lemon-butter with a hint of garlic. It tastes greaseless and melts in the mouth. The paprika-rahmschnitzel is no doubt authentic with cream and paprika added at the last stage of cooking.

Also in German tradition, deserts desserts are amazing and over-the-top lavish. Among the many selections you'll enjoy homemade apple strudel, crepes with apricot jam and a Black Forest torte that will have you coming back time and time again. The apple fritters are to-die-for, with a half dozen big, apple-filled puffs drizzled with chocolate surrounding a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The Dark Chocolate cake is also flawless and is rich, moist, filled and topped with a pecan-coconut-buttercream creation.
