Pridelines Youth Services is dedicated to supporting, educating
and empowering South Florida’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
Transgender and Questioning youth in a safe and diverse
environment.
Pridelines Youth Services History:
Pridelines is a grassroots non-profit organization that was
created by Gay youth for LGBTQ youth and their allies following
Anita Bryant’s infamous “Save Our Children” campaign in the
early 1980s. The programs at Pridelines are rooted in a
peer-led/adult-facilitated youth group model. With the help of
Dr Marilyn Volker, Peter Meyer and other adults concerned about
the mental and physical effects of "Save Our Children" on
Miami's LGBTQ youth, the group began regular meetings at
Miami-Dade College in 1982. In 1996, under the leadership of
group member Dale Ayres, the group incorporated as a non-profit.
Mr. Ayres became the first Executive Director, the group moved
into their own space and formally changed their name to
Pridelines Youth Services. Fundraising efforts were increased,
contracts with Local and State Health Departments soon followed
and programs and the services offered grew.
Serving the Miami - Dade and Broward County communities for more
than 28 years, Pridelines has provided a safe space, social
support, skill building, leadership development and referrals to
mental health, health care and support services for LGBTQ youth
and their straight allies.
