About Task Force Recognition Dinners

The Task Force’s Recognition events pay tribute to community leaders, allies and organizations that fight for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people through their leadership, advocacy and action.

Past award recipients include former South African President Nelson Mandela, the late Coretta Scott King, Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Ted Kennedy, Bishop Gene Robinson, director Gus Van Sant, film producer Bruce Cohen, actors Wilson Cruz, Alec Mapa, Sir Ian McKellan and Mathew St. Patrick, director John Waters, Julian Bond, comedian Margaret Cho, and the Indigo Girls, to name only a few.

The Miami Recognition Dinner is the premier annual celebration of South Florida's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force produces the event and donates two-thirds of the net proceeds to other nonprofit organizations serving the Miami-Dade LGBT community.
