NEW
March 2010 Q & A
Jumponmarkslist.com
spoke with Tom to find out how he got started
and what to expect from his training.
JOML: How did you
get into fitness training?
TOM BONANTI: I have worked out since I was
twelve and I love it. Seven years ago I was at
the end of my rope in a career, which I could no
longer tolerate – big time burn out! So I took
some time out and became a Certified Fitness
Trainer and Licensed Massage Therapist. Upon
moving to South Florida
I began a new career in a field I adore.
Was fitness always
important to you, or did something happen in
your life to make you take fitness seriously or
look into becoming fit?
I was a fat, shy, little gay boy who
discovered weights in my cousin’s basement. I
learned how they could transform my looks and my
self-esteem. Now I see how weight training can
keep me healthy and feeling young, and, oh yeah,
big and muscular as well!
What makes you
different than other trainers?
I know several local gay trainers and they
are the best guys around – caring,
conscientious, professional and gorgeous. I’d
like to think I fit in with them. I think that
my humor and sassy sarcasm help my clients to
get through their routines just a little easier.
How do you
personalize your fitness routines for clients?
Each client is unique, each has his/her own
needs, goals, conditions, etc., therefore, each
person’s routine is different, more specific to
their needs and goals.
Tell me about your
gym – Pump’n Inc.
Pump’n Inc. is a
1,600 sq. ft.
one-on-one gym fully equipped with free weights,
machines and four cardio stations, and a boxing
and wrestling ring. I offer free initial
consultations and if the client works with me I
usually start off with a fitness evaluation and
then launch into a personalized routine based
upon his/her needs. I also have a massage studio
at this location.
How did you get into
professional massage? I
got into massage because I figured that it would
be a great marketable skill to combine with
training. I also believe that it offers my
clients another aspect of healthy living and
physical fitness.
What is your most
requested massage technique?
Hmm… in
Fort Lauderdale,
most of us professional massage therapists smile
at that question. Seriously, as a professional
and licensed massage therapist I usually do a
combination of Swedish, Deep Tissue and Sports
Massage for most of my sessions.
