Hollywood is a city in Broward
County, Florida, United States.
Founded in 1925, the city grew
quickly in the 1950s and 1960s,
and is now the twelth largest
city in Florida. The South
Florida metropolitan area, which
includes Hollywood, is home to
more than six million people.
The Hollywood area is well known
for its casual and laid back
atmosphere, but in recent years downtown and
Hollywood Beach have undergone a
transformation that began with
the demolition and rebuilding of
the world renowned Diplomat Hotel.
The Diplomat was a magnet for
Hollywood celebrities,
Presidents and the world's
Royalty throughout most of it
history. The new
Diplomat Resort and Spa
has reclaimed the luster and
brought millions of dollars
in additional revenue to the
area. The economy of Hollywood
has also been bolstered by
Casinos like
The Seminole Hard Rock
Hotel and Casino (a
gargantuan complex rivaling
anything in Vegas) and The Seminole Paradise
Casino which call Hollywood
home. Nearby, but not
technically in Hollywood, are
Gulfstream Racing
Park and Casino and
Mardis Gras Casino. Hollywood
has wisely used the newfound money to
redevelop Young Circle and the
Hollywood Beach Broadwalk
creating a vibrant community
sandwiched between
Fort Lauderdale
and
Miami.
