Designing America
Javier de Echenique-Vico was born in Madrid Spain in a family of
artists. His grand father was the secretary general of the Prado
Museum, his mother a painter and his father one of the founders
of several TV and radio stations in Spain. The unique artistic
environment he grew up in afforded him the opportunity to
develop an eclectic Mediterranean style that influences his work
to this day. And now Javier calls South Florida home bringing
his design to
America, more here:

About Gay and
Lesbian Fort Lauderdale and
Wilton Manors, FL
According to the Greater Fort
Lauderdale Convention and
Visitors Bureau, Fort Lauderdale
is "America's top Gay resort
area." The city actively pursues
Gay and Lesbian tourists. Fort
Lauderdale and city within a
city Wilton Manors
(affectionately referred to as
WilMa) are also home to a large
year-round population of Gay
residents. The city's
Stonewall
Library & Archives is the
largest-circulation LGBT library
in the United States. Wilton
Manors was the second city in
the country (after West
Hollywood, California) to elect
a Gay-majority city council.
Fort Lauderdale Beach has
recently seen a surge in the
building of mega hotels that
cater to the high end visitor.
In the past few years, Ritz
Carlton, Hilton, Westin, The
Atlantic and the
now famous
W Hotel Fort
Lauderdale with it's voyeur's
dream glass walled pool have
stolen the limelight from Fort
Lauderdale's long established
Gay Guesthouse culture. The
Guesthouses, including the
Coconut Cove,
Inn Leather,
La Casa Del Mar,
Schubert,
The Grand Resort and Spa and
The Windamar Beach Resort nonetheless carry on
and are full to capacity
virtually every weekend. In many
cases, the Guesthouses offer the
same world class service as
their high end competition, at a
lower price and in a frisky
atmosphere that appeals to many
a Gay traveler.
Fort Lauderdale and its suburbs
host over 4,100
restaurants and
over 120 nightclubs (1/3 of them
are Gay or Lesbian oriented).
Many of the nightclubs are
located in downtown's arts and
entertainment district as well
as Wilton Manors, the
"Gayborhood of South Florida." The city is
also the setting for the 1986
movie Flight of the Navigator.
The International Swimming Hall
of Fame is located on
Fort
Lauderdale beach, and houses a
large aquatic complex as well as
a museum, theater, and research
library. Hugh Taylor Birch State
Park is a 180-acre (0.73 km2)
park along the beach, with
nature trails, camping and
picnicking areas, canoeing, and
features the Terramar Visitor
Center, with exhibits about the
ecosystem of the park. The Henry
E. Kinney Tunnel on US Route 1
is the only tunnel on public
land in the state of Florida. It
was constructed in 1960, and its
864-foot (263 m) length travels
underneath the New River and
Las Olas Boulevard.
