‘Stand Up And Ride It’ comedy show to
benefit HIV/AIDS SMART Ride 8
Seven hysterical and critically-acclaimed comedians will take to
the stage Nov. 7 for “Stand Up And Ride It: A Night of Comedy to
Fight AIDS,” the first of its kind, red carpet event to benefit
this year’s SMART Ride 8. The event begins at 8 p.m. and takes
place at
Lips restaurant in
Fort Lauderdale.
All proceeds from the event will go to SMART Ride, a two-day
(Nov. 18-19), 165-mile bike ride from Miami to Key West. This is
the eighth year for the Ride, which has raised more than $2.6
million for six HIV/AIDS organizations throughout Florida. Each
year, hundreds of riders take part in the SMART Ride, and this
year’s first-ever sold out Ride will feature 450 riders and more
than 200 crew members.
The “Stand Up And Ride It” comedy show will feature local and
nationally-recognized comedians Lisa Corrao (Comedy Central’s
SOBE Comedy Festival, ‘The Jerk Show’), Forrest Shaw, Dave
Williamson, Jessica Gross, Adrian Mesa (CBS’ ‘Urban Latino,’
Telemundo, Comedy Central’s SOBE Comedy Festival), Daniel Reskin
and Will Watkins. An open cash bar and $1,000 in raffle items
and giveaways will be available at the show. The event is
organized by SMART Ride participant Andy Lauer (rider No. 436)
and Corrao.
“At a time when HIV/AIDS funding continues to be slashed due to
state budgetary constraints, we were eager to create an event
that compliments and benefits the vital work of the SMART Ride,”
said Lauer. “The ‘Stand Up And Ride It’ comedy show serves as an
additional avenue for which the community can come together to
help those living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.”
