As we

Sunday’s NFL Conference
Championship games,
football fans everywhere
are making their own plans for
the pinnacle contest & gala of
this year’s short-lived football
season – the SUPER BOWL!
Sidelines
Sports Bar, too, is getting
itself ready for the blitz of
LGBT football fans from around
the South Florida area to take
their seats in front of their
favorite flat screen TV and
enjoy the camaraderie,
the howls, the cheers,
the laughs, and yes, even the
cries of foul for what will
certainly be a great sporting
event.
Super Bowl
Sunday at Sidelines is often
viewed as a sacred event and
owners, Laurie Whittaker and
Marty Kildea will not let their
devout followers down. Sidelines
will once again offer its loyal
patrons and fans a deluxe buffet
of barbeque chicken and ribs and
all the fixins’, fantastic
giveaways and prizes, a super
raffle with a surprise GRAND
PRIZE and lots of fun along the
way.
New this
year is Sidelines’ “SMOKE-FREE
ZONE”. Yes, if you haven’t
heard, Sidelines has gone
smoke-free! Inside, the sports
bar has been refurnished and
remodeled with a sparkling clean
& fresh new look! New bar

reviews keep coming in as some
of our new wide-eyed customers
enter and gaze at the many
changes. “I believe this year
will be our best year ever!”
predicts Laurie.

A BREATH OF FRESH AIR
COMING TO SIDELINES!
|
|
While
a number of small businesses
across the country face
difficult and challenging times
due to the nation’s harsh
economic realities, Sidelines
Sports Bar is grateful to have
been able to ride the storm and
remain solvent. The owners and
management recognize in order to
sustain economic health and
continue to grow, they must
continue to evolve and change.
So, after months of
deliberation, and many
discussions with staff, loyal
patrons, and business-minded
folks, Sidelines co-owners,
Laurie Whittaker and Marty
Kildea, have decided to “bring a
breath of fresh air” to the
popular gay sports bar!
On
Wednesday, January 5, 2011,
Sidelines will become a
smoke-free establishment. In
order to properly undertake this
rejuvenation, various
modifications will be made to
the bar and it will be necessary
to close operations for two
days. Therefore, on Monday and
Tuesday, January 3rd & 4th,
respectively, Sidelines will be
closed. During this time, the
staff will be working very hard
to refresh, refashion and
surprise its customers by
creating a new Sidelines!
It
must be reiterated that these
changes in no way affect the
“sports theme” that has made
Sidelines the repeated
award-winning entertainment
venue of Fort Lauderdale since
their opening in 2006. They are
still Sidelines Sports Bar,
“Where Sports Come First”!
The
only things that will not
change is the fun & friendly
staff, the demand for a high
level of customer service and a
passionate desire to provide
Fort Lauderdale’s LGBT community
a pleasant and comfortable
environment in which gay sports
enthusiasts can come together in
a place where they can feel at
home, while watching their
favorite sport, playing a round
of pool, throwing some darts, or
simply sitting amongst friends
over a cocktail discussing the
day’s events.
By
giving Sidelines a bit of a “nip
& tuck”, the goal of management
is to gain even more business,
sustain themselves in this
seemingly slumped economy, and
grow their future business with
confidence.

HOLIDAY GIFTS NOW
AVAILABLE @ SIDELINES!
Hot
off the presses, Sidelines
Sports Bar’s new 2011 Sports
Calendar featuring some of South
Florida’s local cuties as sports
models, is now available for
sale. This fun and adorable look
at some of our community’s
talented sports-minded athletes
was a cooperative effort by
Sidelines, Island City Health &
Fitness, and the benevolent
donations of two of our area’s
professional photographers,
Michael Murphy and Jorge Rondon.
The
proceeds from the sale of the
calendar, priced at only $10,
will be donated to Broward House
and the Cooperative Feeding
Program of Broward County. The
2011 Sports Calendar not only
makes for the perfect holiday
gift, but your dollars will help
to improve the lives of
individuals living with or at
risk for HIV and other health
issues and will feed hungry
bodies, minds and souls by
providing nutritious food,
information and referral, with
compassion and caring.
Each
month’s calendar photo features
one of the winners from the
recent “Model Search” held
during the month of September at
Sidelines Sports Bar. Each
model, clad in their chosen
sports attire, is a loyal
customer of Sidelines Sports
Bar. The owners of the Fort
Lauderdale gay sports bar did
not want to employ professional
talent for this project, but
wished to show the diversity and
attractiveness already here in
gay South Florida.
To
purchase your calendar, visit
Sidelines Sports Bar, Island
City Health & Fitness and some
of Wilton Manor’s nearby
retailers. Quantities are
limited, so hurry and get your

Sidelines' Cook-Off Finals Yield
Surprising Finish
Sidelines Sports Bar’s Sizzlin’
Summer Cook-Off Finals held on
Sunday, July 25th
concluded with a surprising
twist. The Cook-Off Competition,
held each month during the past
summer, brought some of our
area’s most aspiring chefs with
their unique recipes of Chili,
BBQ Ribs, and Chicken Wings to
Sidelines Sports Bar. After the
spirited three-month cooking
contests, the Finals were held
yesterday, in which the top
three winners of each month’s
category competed for the Grand
Prize – a deluxe,
stainless-steel, BBQ gas grill.

The
winners were announced after the
five guest judges’ scores were
tallied. The judges included
Jason (Rosie’s Bar & Grill),
Mark H. (Mark’s List),
Mike T. (Hotspots Magazine),
Nick D. (loyal customer), and
Paul D. (loyal customer).
The
winning chef, garnering the
highest score, was James Morris.
The second place winner was Mark
Knowles, and third place ended
up in a tie – Debbie Mae and
Kenny Nash. The owners and staff
of Sidelines congratulated all
of the participating chefs who
donated their time and flair for
cuisine. The staff and customers
surely enjoyed every morsel,
too!
Much to our
surprise, after all of the
winners were announced,
applauded, and congratulated,
James Morris, the first place
winner, made the announcement to
Laurie and Marty, co-owners of
Sidelines that he wanted to
donate his prize to The
Poverello Center so they can
offer it as a prize in a raffle
at their upcoming Bowl-A-Thon on
August 7th. The
Bowl-A-Thon is Poverello’s
annual fundraiser that helpsprovide
life-saving nutritional
essentials to individuals living
with HIV/AIDS who are residents
of
Broward
County.
“We
are so grateful and amazed at
the selfless generosity of James
Morris. His thoughtfulness
and considerate gesture is
something we will always
remember”, commented Dale
Madison, Fundraising Coordinator
of The Poverello Center.

Sidelines Bringing Fun
& Games To The 2010 Stonewall Festival!
Friday’s Official Host Bar
Party Celebrates Pride
Sidelines Sports Bar’s
sponsorship of this year’s
Stonewall Street
Festival & Parade in
Gay and Lesbian Wilton Manors Florida will bring some amusement to
the south end of drive unlike before. Festival
attendees will enjoy a tented dance area with
celebrated DJs spinning their favorites for the
fans throughout the day plus an assortment of
sporting games will surely keep revelers in good
spirits.
After the Stonewall parade
winds along Wilton
Drive, starting at
11:00 AM, the festival officially
begins. The music dance tent will be set up next
to Sidelines and guest celebrity DJs Wendy Hunt
and Marc Scott will perform their music magic
for the party goers. As the area’s premier
sports bar, Sidelines will offer amusement-type
sporting games for its patrons and festival
attendees. There will be a dunking tank, a Sumo
Wrestling area, and other sports-related
contests creating spirited competition for all
to enjoy.
In order to promote Wilton
Manors as a gay and gay-friendly destination,
the Board of Directors of Pride of Greater Fort
Lauderdale (PGFTL), the presenters of the
Stonewall event, have extended the event to
allow some of the nighttime entertainment venues
to hold “Official Stonewall Parties” during the
week prior to June 20th. On Friday, June 18th,
Sidelines Sports Bar will host their “Official
Host Bar Party” beginning at 9:00 PM. Raffles,
prizes, 2-4-1 drink pricing on 42Below Vodka,
the official liquor sponsor for the Stonewall
event, will headline the party’s fun and
friendly atmosphere to kick-off the 11th Annual
Stonewall Street Festival & Parade.
“This year’s Stonewall
gives us the opportunity to come together as a
community to remember those who fought for our
rights and ability to be who we are”, commented
Laurie Whittaker, co-owner of Sidelines. “In the
spirit of the day, we can let loose, celebrate,
and simply have fun with one another proudly”,
she continued.
SIDELINES SPORTS BAR
IS TAKING PRIDE ON “THE DRIVE”
Sidelines Sports Bar is
proud to announce its sponsorship of this year’s
Stonewall Street Festival & Parade. As a major
sponsor of the annual event, Sidelines will take
part in bringing the festivities down to the
south end of the drive by hosting a large tented
dance area with celebrated DJs Wendy Hunt and
Marc Scott spinning for the fans. On Sunday, June 20, 2010, thousands of revelers will emerge
onto Wilton Drive
at 11:00 AM to watch the popular Stonewall Parade
(presented by 42Below Vodka). The annual parade
has become one of the most anticipated events in
South Florida.
After the parade winds along
Wilton Drive from
NE 20th Street to its
finish at “Five Points”, the festival will
officially begin. This year, Sidelines is adding
amusement-type sporting games for its patrons
and festival attendees. There will be a dunking
tank, a Sumo Wrestling area, and other
sports-related contests creating spirited
competition for all to enjoy.
Headlining on the Main Stage
(presented by Miller Lite) is singing artist and
Tony Award-winning actress, Jennifer Holiday.
Other nationally known entertainers, such as
Electra and Kevin Aviance, as well as local acts
from South Florida will
also be performing throughout the day. Merchants
also have the opportunity to exhibit their wares
at vendor booths located on
Wilton Drive. There
will be a Family Activities Area with games and
activities for children and their parents,
On-Street Bars, sponsored by local bars not
located on "The Drive", Beverage Trucks,
provided by the beer & soda sponsors, and the
Stonewall Food Court,
serving up everyone's favorite carnival food
specialties.
The Stonewall Street
Festival & Parade, put on by Pride of Greater
Fort Lauderdale (PGFTL), a non-profit
organization, commemorates the Stonewall
Rebellion on New York's
Christopher Street in
June of
1969. In the gay world, it
is a time to be proud. Gays in a growing number
of cities and countries participate in annual
parades, festivals and events collectively
called gay pride. Gay men and women come out
(some, literally) to attend these events as a
way to show their pride and participate in the
annual tradition of remembrance and celebration.
“We are delighted to once
again be a part of the Stonewall Street Festival
& Parade”, commented Laurie Whittaker, co-owner
of Sidelines. “This is a day when our community
comes out in full force proudly showing our
strength, unity, and friendship”, she continued.
2nd COOK-OFF CONTEST
