Kaiseki Sakura - photo of Chef Daisuke IzutsuWith 15 years of experience as a Japanese Culinary Chef, Daisuke Izutsu first came to Canada in 2001 as the private chef to the Consulate General of Japan. Daisuke also worked for Mark Thuet for one year upon completion of his three year contract with the Consul. In August of 2006, Daisuke and his wife Yumi opened Kaiseki-SAKURA, their first restaurant to offer the unique style of kaiseki cuisine.

Kaiseki-SAKURA invites you to savor the authentic taste of Japan right here in Toronto. In addition to the traditional Japanese ingredients, they take advantage of the bountiful seasonal materials of Canada. Kaiseki Sakura - cuisineThe restaurant offers a monthly course menu and a casual a la carte selection that is a perfect accompaniment to sake. Experience Japanese craftsmanship, the pristine craft of the Japanese cooking knife and the spirit of Japan, all while enjoying our selection of traditional sake.

Sakura offers two main options for your gourmet dining pleasure: the OMAKASE tasting menu and our a la carte menu.

The OMAKASE tasting menu is a truly unique dining experience. The courses consist of dishes hand-picked by the chef from a variety of appetizers, soups, sashimi, grilled dishes, fried dishes, steamed dishes, simmered dishes and rice or noodles. (menu changes monthly).

The a la carte menu offers a variety of dishes, where a party of two will choose approximately four to six dishes. To allow the entire party to savor each dish leisurely, the dishes are served in no particular order, in a relaxed atmosphere.
