Channel 1 Releasing announced that it has acquired the legendary gay adult studio, Catalina Video.

With the addition of this award-winning gay adult production company, along with its 600-plus titles - that span close to 30 years, Channel 1 Releasing remains, unequivocally, the largest gay owned and operated gay adult entertainment company in the world.

“We are overjoyed about Catalina joining Channel 1 Releasing,” says C1R partner Rob Novinger. “The studio’s library, which includes some of the most historical gay titles ever made, remains virtually untouched. It makes the prospect of bringing them to consumers in new formats really exciting.”

Founded in 1978, by legendary director/producer William Higgins, Catalina Video was the “Crown Jewel” of the gay adult entertainment industry throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s. Not only did it produce landmark and innovative films such as Big Guns, Hot Rods: Young and Hung II, Sailor in the Wild, Undercover, The Rise, Jawbreaker and GAYVN’s Best Gay Adult Movie of all time Powertool. The ground-breaking studio is also credited for single-handedly building the bi-sexual film genre with hits such as The Big Switch and Revenge of the Bi Dolls.

It’s stellar roster of discoveries are a who's who of porn legends, including Kip Noll, the first “twink” superstar, Leo Ford, 80’s blond surfer boy, Kevin Williams, one of the most popular “bottoms” of all time, sexy brunette Mike Henson, nasty stud Steve Rambo, the sultry John Davenport, the unforgettable Matt Ramsey (aka Peter North), Asian porn stud Brandon Lee, and gay porn icon Jeff Stryker - who made several successful films for the studio including In Hot Pursuit, The Switch Is On, The Look, and Powertool. With its acquisition of Catalina Video, Channel 1 Releasing will gain access to the expansive library of titles that the studio has produced over the last three decades and will re-package and re-release many of them on DVD.

Chi Chi’s award-winning hits for Catalina Video include The Rise, which he won his first Best Director award for, Billboard, which was the first full-length film he directed for Catalina and starred LaRue’s much talked about discovery Joey Stefano, The Bite 1 & 2, the Secret Sex series, Idol Thoughts, Powertool 2, which he co-directed with the award-winning Director/Editor Josh Eliot, and many, many more. Chi Chi was also responsible for discovering some of Catalina’s biggest stars like Lex Baldwin, who he directed in the award-winning video Straight To Bed and Man of the Year, and Caesar, who made his debut in LaRue’s Hail Caesar, among countless others.
