Danny Roddick In Memoriam

San Francisco, California, September 14, 2007 - COLT Studio Group announced today that it has learned that Buckshot Man and good friend, Danny Roddick passed away on September 13, 2007.  “We are devastated and saddened by this tragedy,” said President and Creative Director John Rutherford.  “We have watched Danny grow up and everyone here at COLT Studio Group extends our most heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and loved ones.  He will be missed.”

Danny joined the COLT Studio Group as a Buckshot exclusive performer in 2005.  He immediately gained a following with memorable performances in Buckshot’s ‘HARD Studies,’ ‘Boot Black Blues’, ‘BIG RIG: Extended Cab Edition,’ and Olympus’ ‘HOSTILE.’  Director Kristofer Weston said, “He was one of the most caring and sensitive people I’ve ever had the privilege of working with on set. A truly beautiful man inside and out and I’m honored to have called him a friend.”

Danny most recently appeared in the Buckshot release and director Jerry Douglas feature ‘BROTHERHOOD’.  “The loss of anyone so young and talented and especially a sweet and fragile individual is heartbreaking, but for someone who was rapidly approaching the peak of his career it is doubly painful,” said Jerry Douglas.

In addition to his film work with the studio, Danny has made numerous appearances, including most recently at the Chicago GRABBY Awards as a Trophy Boy.  His work ethic, positive attitude and energy will be sorely missed. 

Most recently, Danny had appeared in Director Dennis Bell’s AMG Brazil 2-part feature ‘AMAZONIA: Capture & Release’ set to release at the end of September.  “I had the pleasure of working with Danny recently and will miss him greatly” commented Dennis Bell.

I have just returned from an amazing trip to NYC and while on this trip I had the distinct honor of being invited over to the home of Jerry Douglas, famed porn director and GAYVN Hall of Fame Inductee.  My partner and I took a short cab ride from our hotel to meet Jerry at his amazing home and shortly thereafter we all ventured out for a scrumptious lunch near his home on the Upper East Side.  When entering the home of Jerry Douglas, one is immediately struck with the feeling that you are in the presence of someone very special.  Having been a director in the industry since the early 70’s, his home is a veritable museum of not only the Gay Porn Industry, but also the theatre and mainstream motion picture industry.  Douglas is not only an amazing director who has worked with just about every major porn star and producer in the industry, but an incredibly charming and witty man who had my partner and me in stitches within minutes of our arrival. 

Sitting in his living room, filled with hundreds of classic novels, he entertained my partner and me with stories of the industry over the years and interesting tales of the porn star talent he has directed and worked with.  He is thrilled about his latest film BROTHERHOOD and gave us a sneak peak at the first 10 minutes of the film, which I can honestly say it is totally HOT and will no doubt become another award winner for Douglas and COLT STUDIO GROUP.  When asked what he thought about the cast of this film, Douglas stated “This is a cast of Faces…so many beautiful young men who each give amazing performances in both their acting and sex scenes.  I love beautiful faces and out of all the films I have directed I can say that this film captures my passion of showing off a beautiful face.”  His exuberance is readily apparent as he speaks about this film and his passion for the gay porn industry in general.  After a quick tour of his home and a peak into his archives of gay porn videos, we all headed out for a great lunch and a lot more laughter.  I personally want to thank Jerry for all he has done for this industry over the years and I wish him and his partner continued success in all that they do.

In addition to this latest film, he was very excited to tell me about the upcoming Off Broadway Play he is directing starring none other than porn legend Ryan Idol! In this show Douglas said that “the role requires Ryan to act many different sides of him, which is difficult for seasoned actors, and Ryan does an amazing job and is very eager to deliver a great performance.”  Ryan Idol is currently making his Broadway debut in the The Ritz starring Rosie Perez where he plays one of the Bath House Patrons.  After his run in The Ritz, Douglas and Idol will finish work on his one-man-show which will debut sometime next year.

In 1967, Jim French began photographing men under the pseudonym, Rip Colt. Kristofer worked at Falcon Studios after having helmed MASTA Entertainment. Weston’s style is part of the successful revival of the Buckshot Productions line and is an important part of COLT Studio Group’s “continuing evolution.”  Not to be ignored is the chief videographer and editor of COLT Studio Group, award winner, Max Phillips. Max began his association with John Rutherford at Falcon Studios, where he was an integral part of close to 90 productions, before joining COLT Studio Group.

COLT Studio Group is pleased to announce the signing of our newest COLT Man - Antton Harri. Antton has signed a mutual partnership agreement to join the world’s pinnacle of men – The COLT Stable. Even though he has completed two Buckshot movies this year, we felt he had the qualities to crossover as a COLT Man. Antton appeared in Part 1, Scorched and tore up the screen with superstar Josh Weston. Director Weston was so impressed that he offered him the lead in his next Buckshot feature Muscle Ranch 2 (Scheduled for release early 2007). By the end of this production we knew he was ready to graduate to COLT.

COLT Studio Group is announcing a 40th anniversary celebration to commemorate their 40th year in the male erotica industry. The birthday bash will be held in San Francisco on Friday night, February 23rd 2007 one night before the annual GayVN Award Show next year.

CSG president John Rutherford said, “No other all-male studio has consistently produced high quality products and to be doing it non-stop for 40 years deserves a huge celebration. We are very excited that the GayVN Awards Show will be held here in our home city next year and expect that having our birthday party the night before their event will allow all the industry to come and celebrate with us.”

Also, in celebration of the 40 years, COLT Studio Group will publish a very special collector’s edition photo book encompassing iconic images throughout the history of COLT, beginning with the early drawings of Rip Colt, photographs by Jim French and more recent images from the new John Rutherford COLT Studio Group team (sample sleeve above). The book will be released in November 2006.

Just back from Los Angeles accepting his lifetime achievement award from the Free Speech Coalition (FSC) President and Creative Director of COLT Studio Group John Rutherford said, "I was humbled by my recognition from such a great organization and group of industry leaders, attorneys and lobbyists.  The hard work and continued efforts of the people behind the Free Speech Coalition will pave the way for me to continue for another 17 years!"
