Josh
Flagg, who stars on BRAVO TV’s
Million Dollar Listing, can now add another book
to his repertoire. In “Million Dollar Agent: Brokering
the Dream,” Josh shares with readers his unique
childhood, his lavish and over the top lifestyle, his
“coming out", as well the inspirations and experiences
that made him the passionate and incredibly informed
real estate agent you love to watch. If you haven’t seen
the show on BRAVO, Million Dollar Listing follows
the lives of three of Los Angeles' hottest, young, and
aggressive real estate magnates in the making as they
increase their fortunes selling multi-million dollar
properties in the most exclusive neighborhoods:
Hollywood, Malibu and Beverly Hills. Josh recently
caught up with Mark’s List to talk about his new book,
his hit television show and what it’s like to work with
million dollar listings and high profile clients.
You have a new book
coming out. What will readers find surprising
about the book? Why did you decide to share your
story?
In my show, we have never
dealt with my personal life beyond my family, so I think
the viewer of Million Dollar Listing has really
no idea who I am. So let's just say this book will be
like meeting a new person for the first time. There is a
lot that even people who know me well were not aware of.
Anyone who has read it so far, said it was a breath of
fresh air. I happen to agree!
In the book you talk
about your “coming out” experience and your partner
Colton.
Was this risky business for you?
Not at all. We are in 2010, or
actually 2011 now. If you don't like it, get out of
dodge. At least I live in one of the most liberal states
out there! Now ask me the same question when I move to
Tennessee
and I might have a different answer for you!
Do you think being
openly gay in the business world is more acceptable now?
Did you ever face any discrimination from other agents
or clients based on your sexual orientation?
If you discriminate against
any group of people, you cannot make it in the business
world. What? Are you not going to do business with a
rich investor just because he is from
China?
Or are you not going to sell a home to someone because
he or she is black? It is ridiculous! Who cares? We all
bleed the same color and the folks that still think like
we are in 1950 are going to be left back in 1950. We are
talking about real estate agents. If anything, the
straight agents were discriminated against. I mean come
on, next to being a flight attendant, it's the gayest
job out there!
What are some of the
perks of working with top dollar properties and
high-powered clients?
The commissions are larger.
In the new season of
your television show Million Dollar Listing you deal
with some very demanding clients. What’s your
biggest horror story? Have you had any clients who
were nicer than you anticipated?
No one ever remembers the nice
people; they only remember the horrible people. I can
tell you about a lot of horrible ones!
What else can we expect
from the show this season?
Drama! This season has so much
drama and so much fun! I think the new cast of
characters is amazing! The new seasons finally will mark
the opening of the viewer into my personal life, which
never happened before.
What has been the most
difficult aspect of working in real estate over the last
few years with the economic issues?
It gives me a lot more time to
do the things I enjoy in my personal life. I look at
everything and make a positive of the situation. So now,
I have more time to spend with family and friends!
What’s next for Josh
Flagg? More television? More books?
How far do you think you can take your career in real
estate?
The sky is the limit!
Speaking, more books, more TV, more real estate, more
everything!
