Burlesque With Cora Vette

Denver Nightlife is Heating Up

Cora Vette is making a big name for herself in the Mile High City! With her sexy curves, powerhouse vocals, and hilarious personality, she is bringing her talents to many Gay bars around Denver. Her naughty shows will keep you entertained in the midst of the booming nightlife. Cora is currently performing every Monday night at X Bar for Musicalesque Mondays. She also also has a new show, “Cora Vette’s Hot Rods,” at the Compound. It will be a boylesque show. Also, she performs at other local venues occasionally and travels to perform in other cities like New Orleans.

Where are you from originally?
I am originally from Minneapolis, MN. But, I have been in Denver on and off since high school.

How long have you been performing?
I think I did my first musical when I was three. I remember I got really sick and had to lay on a cot backstage while my understudy went on. I was devastated! I think that must be the reason why (many years later) when I was playing Tanya in Mamma Mia in Las Vegas, I never missed shows. My understudies hated me!

What can someone expect from one of your shows?
Naughty bawdy good clean dirty fun - singing, dancing, striptease, jokes and crazy costuming. I always aspire to give the audience an escape from day to day stress. I want people to be able go out, forget their troubles, be entertained and have a great time.

What is currently your favorite song to perform?
I don't know. I have so many! I think it just depends on the audience and the show. I love a big up-tempo show stopper like "Lady Marmalade,” but I also love to bring the audience in with a song like "White Christmas.” I love the hush that sometimes falls over the crowd during a ballad. I know the audience is with me at that exact moment in time. That is why I do theater.

Do you have any musical influences?
I am influenced by great crooners and great entertainers. Ella Fitzgerald, Rosemary Clooney and Bette Midler to name just a few. I love old music. The melodies are timeless and the singer is the song. I think at heart I am an old soul. Oh! I also love love love to find dirty old music. A few years ago I stumbled into a bunch of naughty songs with titles like Hot Nuts, Press my button ring my bell, If it don't fit don't force it, Sam, the hot dog man, etc. and so on….Actually, those dirty old songs are what brought me to burlesque. I couldn't believe they were recorded in the 20s and 30s. I was instantly hooked.

What other hobbies do you have?
I love to sew. My mom taught me when I was in junior high and when I turned 30, she gave me her old Pfaff sewing machine. I make all my own costumes (mostly out of sparkle vinyl) and that old sewing machine can sew through anything! Oh, and adding rhinestones to everything, and making feather fans, and pasties... I also collect vintage patterns and love sewing a new dress from a 50s pattern. The styles are so classic and classy!

Favorite Drink: Red wine (sometimes out of those tiny airplane bottles…with a straw - classy right?)
Celebrity Crush: Val Kilmer of the Real Genius era...
One thing you can’t live without: Rhinestones. It's a sickness.
