Local designer T. Fabiano creates sexy swimwear

Miami’s own swimwear designer, Fabiano DeMoraes, of T. Fabiano fame, started his line of swimwear in Rio, when he realized that he couldn’t find anything that suited his style. He spoke with Mark’s List Magazine about how he got started, what inspires him and who his dream model would be.

Mark’s List Magazine: How did you get into designing swimwear?

Fabiano DeMoraes: It was exactly 1998 and I was still living in Rio –  I am from Rio de Janeiro. I am a retired dentist.  I was an oral surgeon in Rio and had my practice for nine years. I felt I needed to do something I really felt passion for. Being from Rio, I grew up going to beach almost every day and I was always looking for the perfect swimsuit and for something unique that other guys don’t have.  I created for myself and then one thing led to another and I started designing for stores in Rio. 

When did you come to Miami?

I moved here in 1999. I expanded the line here, but I still sell in Rio. Everything is made in Rio – I’ve been working with the same factory for 12 year. I like their quality. When I’m doing something with my name on it, it has to be good quality. 

What makes your design unique?

The prints I have are unique. The details- like in the string or a logo. I get a lot of feedback because I have an online store. I can reach out in a global scale. You get feedback from guys on Facebook and Twitter and even through the website.  So far I am really happy with the feedback.

What designers do you look up to?

The designers that I am always looking up are Dolche and Gabbana and DSquared, but I do consider other brands –  they are not my competition because we all have the same purpose –Andrew Christian, Tulio and Aussie Bum. I follow what they are doing because I don’t want to fall into doing the same thing. I want to bring something new. I’m always challenging myself. 

Who would be your dream model?

Brad Pitt! 

With or without the beard?

Without the beard and without Angelina!

So far online at www.tfabiano.com. I am going to start this year doing contacts for distributors. 

What’s next for you?

A new collection of swimsuits, of course, and we started with surfwear, like surfboard shorts, accessories, necklaces, Brazilian Havaianas – a design specific for Havaianas- produced for T.Fabiano.
