MERCE IN MIAMI

World Premiere by Merce Cunningham!

February 23 @ 8 p.m. - eyeSpace & CRWDSPCR
Merce in Miami includes the world premiere on February 23, 2007, of eyeSpace at the Ziff Ballet Opera House, a piece commissioned by the Center for this festival in which Cunningham's choreography is united for the first time with designs by Miami visual artist Daniel Arsham and a score by composer David Behrman. eyeSpace premieres on a double bill with CRWDSPCR (1993).

February 25 @ 7:30 p.m. - Crisis & Split Sides
A second program in the Ballet Opera House on February 25 includes Crises (1960) and Split Sides (2003), which features music by the bands Radiohead and Sigur Rós. At this historic tribute to Cunningham, Sigur Rós will come to Miami to perform its portion of the score live.

In the Knight Concert Hall, Cunningham's final collaboration with composer John Cage, the beautiful and exhilarating Ocean (1994), will be recreated for three performances only, March 1-3.

Merce in Miami is a citywide tribute to one of the great artists of our era. It celebrates his more than 50 years as dance maker and theatrical visionary as well as his many extraordinary collaborations with major figures in music and the visual arts. As its centerpiece, Carnival Center presents three different programs by a company whose name is synonymous with ground-breaking American contemporary dance, Merce Cunningham Dance Company.

In addition to Carnival Center performances, Merce in Miami will include art exhibits, concerts, lectures, and workshops throughout South Florida, making it a significant achievement for the City of Miami and a remarkable event in the world of the arts.

Also participating in Merce in Miami are Museum of Contemporary Art (Miami MOCA), New World School of the Arts, Florida Dance Association, interdisciplinary Sound Arts Workshop and Miami-Dade College.
