Clay Aiken has
officially come out of the closet as a gay man on the cover of the new issue of
People magazine.
Let's all welcome Clay Aiken to the Gayborhood!
Just Jared: The
26-year-old singer [Britney Spears] has recently put her
Beverly Hills estate on the market for $7.9 million. Purchased
in Dec. 2007 for approximately $7 million, she would stand to gain
about $1 million in profits. The pop princess is reportedly looking
for a new place that would be better suited for her two sons,
Sean and
Jayden.
Britney Spears: Dance, Dance, Revolution!
The Petrelis Files: The
newspaper of record for Wasilla, Alaska, is the
Frontiersman and today's edition includes an extensive
front-page story about my donation of two gay-themed books to the
local library.

L.A. Rag Mag:
Famous for copious cocaine consumption and popularizing the heroin
chic look, Kate Moss can now claim fame for her
art. That’s right, Kate Moss is an artist… just ask her. Kate’s
artistic debut is a self-portrait in lipstick and blood. The
creation features Moss’ lip prints and Doherty’s blood stains
on the canvas. It reads: Who needs blood when you’ve got lipstick.

Jossip: Munger, who
writes the Progressive Alaska blog, told me Palin is
not just a creationist, but a "young Earth" creationist who believes
that man and dinosaurs once shared the planet, and that the world
will end in her lifetime.
Sarah Palin: I'll See Jesus in My Lifetime
New York Times: The
stratospheric pay packages of Wall Street executives have
become a lightning rod issue as Congress shapes a $700
billion bailout for financial firms. Proposals circulating on
Capitol Hill vary, but they all would impose some limits or approval
authority on salaries of executives whose firms seek help.

Salon: On Sept. 13,
journalist Margriet Oostveen published a column in the Dutch
newspaper NRC Handelsblad detailing how she had ghost-written
letters to the editor on behalf of, and at the behest of, John
McCain's presidential campaign. (The Dutch version of her column
is
here; Salon's English translation is
here.) Among the letters Oostveen says she wrote is one in
which she pretended to be the mother of a soldier serving in Iraq.
How Ghost-Writing Letters to the Editor for McCain Works
The Atlantic: John
McCain believes the Vietnam War was winnable. Now he
argues that an Obama administration would accept defeat in
Iraq, with grave costs to American honor and national security.
Is McCain’s quest for victory a reflection of an antiquated
pre-Vietnam mind-set? Or of a commitment to principles we abandon at
our peril? Is there any war McCain thinks can’t be won?

The Bilerico Project:
The gay panic defense, and its cousin, the transgender panic
defense, have been criticized by many, and yet it still survives to
rear its ugly head again and again. Cases in which these defenses
are raised become high profile, with prominent examples such as the
murders of Matthew Shepard, Brandon Teena, and Gwen Araujo.
In fact, there have been a couple of legal conferences on the issue
of gay panic and trans panic defenses in the past several years, in
which prosecutors have sought to learn how to defeat it.

Eater: 'American Idol' has catapulted a smattering of America's
stars into the limelight. The most recent 'AI' winner, David Cook,
is next with the premiere of the first single, 'Light On,'
off of his unnamed album. The tune was produced by Grammy-winning
producer Rob Cavallo (Green Day, Kid Rock) and is scheduled
for iTunes release on Sept. 30 (you'll be able to buy it on
Mark's List). Meanwhile, Cook's as-yet-untitled debut album will be
released on Nov. 18. Listen to it here:

Queerty:
For so long this fine nation's homophobes and other narrow-minded
baddies have been associated with stodgy, wholly unfashionable
leaders like James Dobson, Phyllis Schlafly
and the ne'er done-up Shirley Phelps. None of these
people speak to the youth of America. So, in an effort to make
themselves more youth-friendly, California's anti-gay marriage
activists have established a new site, iProtect Marriage, a spin-off
of the more staid Protect Marriage.

Steve Rothaus: After seven years, a
Key West
foster dad fulfilled a 12-year-old boy's greatest dream: to have a
real father. In doing so, he may help smash a controversial Florida law.

Mag: Chicago is known as the City Of Broad Shoulders, which
might explain the strong masculine looks of today’s model
Robert Momenteller. Robert, Bobby for friends, was born and
raised in Rockford, Illinois, about 60 miles south of
Chicago. I think it won’t come as a total surprise if we mention to
you that Bobby has been athletic for pretty much his entire life,
being an active player in baseball, football, soccer and basketball.
Add some bodybuilding and a competitive spirit to this
et voila, we have the perfect
Mr. Rockford, a title Bobby can proudly ad to his list of
accomplishments. More of

Gables. With a
dramatic first-person narrative and close-up photography that brings kids into
the thick of the action, National Geographic photographer Robert B. Haas gives us a rare
glimpse into the struggles for survival in the African wilderness in African Critters (National
Geographic, $17.95, ages 6-11). Join him in his jeep, camera primed and ready to
react. With stories and photographs that portray actual events, we wait
patiently to spot leopard cubs coming out of their cave to play; we are charged
by protective adult elephants who surround a new-born; we move side-by-side with
a clan of wild dogs as they hunt impalas. This beautiful and inviting book draws
readers into Haas’s passion for Africa, for conservation, and for finding
harmony between the actions of humans and the survival of wild animals.
4:30pmWhy
are prominent doctors and medical researchers all over the world interested in
the extraordinary healings reported by the patients of Dr. Eric Pearl? What does it
mean when these patients report the sudden disappearance of afflictions such as
cancer, AIDS, and cerebral palsy? And what does it mean when people who interact
with Dr. Pearl report a sudden ability to access this healing energy not just
for themselves, but for others, too? What is this phenomenon? Well, you might have to reconsider
everything you've read up until now about conventional healing. The Reconnection: Heal Others, Heal Yourself
(Hay House, $14.95) reveals methods you can use to personally master these new
healing energies. 8pm
