Mark's List, Florida's Most Popular Gay and Lesbian Website National Coming Out DayQueerty: We conclude that, in light of the history of pernicious discrimination faced by gay men and lesbians, and because the institution of marriage carries it it a status and significance that the newly crated classification of civil unions does not embody, the segregation of heterosexual and homosexual couples into separate institutions constitutes a cognizable harm. We also conclude that our state scheme discriminates on the basis of sexual orientation, for the same reasons that classifications predicated on gender are considered quasi-suspect for the purposes of the equal protection provisions of the United States constitutions… Connecticut Supreme Court Overturns Ban On Gay Marriage

Mark's List, Florida's Most Popular Gay and Lesbian Website Gawker: As we mentioned earlier [this week], it's all too possible that another depression might be upon us. So how are to act, what are we to feel, what songs are we to sing? To find some answers, we dove into YouTube and (with some help from Metafilter) found 20 clips from 20 films about the Great Depression of the 1930's. They just might provide valuable insights into what the future holds. Watch and learn after the jump. 20 Movies About the First Great Depression To Watch During the Sequel
Mark's List, Florida's Most Popular Gay and Lesbian Website PageOneQ: Oklahoma State Representative Sally Kern defended earlier statements against gays and lesbians yesterday in a debate with Democratic challenger Ron Marlett. In a heated debated against Marlett Thursday, Kern, who is running for a third term, defended her position against the “gay agenda,” and repeated her statement that gays represent the biggest threat to the nation. While terrorism has killed more than 3,000 people in the continental United States in the last 15 years, homosexual behavior has killed more than 100,000,” the Republican representative said. “It's a danger to life. It is a danger to health.” Sally Kern: Homosexuality has killed more Americans than 9/11
Mark's List, Florida's Most Popular Gay and Lesbian Website Huffington Post: John McCain was booed by his own supporters during a rally on Friday after he described Barack Obama as a "decent person and a person that you do not have to be scared of as president of the United States." McCain Faces Backlash Over Rabid Crowds
Mark's List, Florida's Most Popular Gay and Lesbian Website Gawker: Immediately after his inauguration as president in 1933, Franklin Roosevelt instituted a four-day bank holiday during which insolvent institutions were closed and the survivors were given a federal seal of approval. According to Italy's prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, the big economies are discussing a similarly drastic move, a closure of world markets, hopefully temporary. There's one big difference [after the jump]. The Bank Holiday
Mark's List, Florida's Most Popular Gay and Lesbian Website Boy Culture: RJ Durell, 30, is one of the choreographers behind Madonna's Confessions ("You Thrill Me/Erotica," "La Isla Bonita," "Lucky Star") and Sticky & Sweet tours, as well as the guy who tried his best to get Britney to "Gimme More" on MTV—the latter performance was sub-par for Britney, but the actual routine as designed could have and should have been spectacular. Video below, interview after the jump: Dance From The Dancer: An Interview With RJ Durell

Mark's List, Florida's Most Popular Gay and Lesbian Website Popwatch Blog: According to The Hollywood Reporter, America's Next Top Model's Jay Manuel and J. Alexander will shoot a pilot for The CW called Operation Fabulous: They will "travel the country giving women makeovers. In various towns, the duo will select five participants and give them Top Model-style overhauls — how to dress, wear their hair and makeup and bring out their confidence with the support of family, friends and their community." Mr. Jay and Miss J get a 'Top Model' spinoff. Discuss.
Mark's List, Florida's Most Popular Gay and Lesbian Website Defamer: A Defamer operative going about his daily Rodeo Drive chores let us know about a standoff that went down this morning between the forces of good (underpaid and undervalued reality show writer-producers) and evil (Heidi Klum, and anything—sorry Tim Gunn fans!—Heidi Klum-adjacent). Unruly WGA Mob Protest 'Project Runway' Rodeo Drive Shoot
Mark's List, Florida's Most Popular Gay and Lesbian Website Bricks and Stone: I think one of the life changing things that he [Brad Pitt] did, one of many, is that I was absolutely never going to get pregnant. I never felt that it was the right thing to do,” Jolie, 33, tells W magazine, in an article featuring photos taken by Pitt of her breastfeeding. Angelina: Brad Convinced Me to Get Pregnant
Mark's List, Florida's Most Popular Gay and Lesbian Website Faded Youth Blog: Production of the highly anticipated Sherlock Holmes movie has begun and FYB has the first photos from the set! Guy Ritchie’s feature film starring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law and Rachel McAdams is currently shooting in Central London. Robert Downey Jr. As Sherlock Holmes Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes
Mark's List, Florida's Most Popular Gay and Lesbian Website The Onion: This normally peaceful suburban town is still reeling following the news Monday that a local resident, whose name is being withheld by police pending a full investigation, left an iPhone unattended for more than three hours in a car parked in the hot sun. Police: iPhone Left In Hot Car For Three Hours
Mark's List, Florida's Most Popular Gay and Lesbian Website Stuff White People Like: #110 Though many white people consider competitive sports to be too aggressive and macho for their tastes there are a few exceptions.  The most notable is Soccer since for some reason it is wrong to get fired up about Football game, but right to get fired up about a Football match.  The second sport (term used loosely) in this category is called Ultimate Frisbee or simply Ultimate. #110 Frisbee Sports
Mark's List, Florida's Most Popular Gay and Lesbian Website Slate: That Barack Obama and William Ayers knew each other during the 1990s may tell us something about the two men. But it says much more about a particular time and place: Hyde Park, Chicago, more than a decade ago. Obama first moved to Chicago in 1985, when he worked as a community organizer. But his career got on its current course when he returned to Hyde Park in 1991 to practice law and teach constitutional law at the University of Chicago. Four years later, he met Ayers at a lunchtime meeting about school reform. The Bill Ayers that Barack Obama and I worked with was no "domestic terrorist."
Mark's List, Florida's Most Popular Gay and Lesbian Website Salon: Steven Branchflower, the prosecutor who led the investigation into Sarah Palin’s firing of Alaska’s public safety commissioner, concludes in his final report that she abused her power. However, another of Branchflower’s findings makes the report something less than a complete disaster for Palin. Report: Palin abused her power
Mark's List, Florida's Most Popular Gay and Lesbian Website Newsweek: The global financial meltdown has caused a dramatic shift in the 2008 presidential race, according to the latest Newsweek poll. With four weeks left in the presidential campaign, Barack Obama now leads John McCain by double digits, 52 percent to 41 percent among registered voters—a marked shift from the last Newsweek poll, conducted one month ago, when the two candidates were tied at 46 percent. Underlying Obama's surge in support: An historic boiling over of dissatisfaction with the status quo. An astounding 86 percent of voters now say they are dissatisfied with the way things are going in the United States, while a mere 10 percent say they are satisfied. That's the highest wrong track/right track ratio ever recorded in the Newsweek poll. Obama opens a double-digit lead in new Newsweek poll

Books & Books Coral Gables Perry's IQ is only 76, but he's not stupid. His grandmother taught him everything he needs to know to survive: She taught him to write things down so he won't forget them. She taught him to play the lottery every week. And, most important, she taught him whom to trust. When Gram dies, Perry is left orphaned and bereft at the age of thirty-one. Then his weekly Washington State Lottery ticket wins him 12 million dollars, and he finds he has more family than he knows what to do with. Peopled with characters both wicked and heroic who leap of the pages, Patricia Wood’s Lottery (Berkley, $14) is a deeply satisfying, gorgeously rendered novel about trust, loyalty, and what distinguishes us as capable. 7 PM

Live Music in the Courtyard: Nicole Yarling Trio, 8-11 PM
